Joe Calzaghe Would Like Winky Wright at 168

Calzaghe UD, Winky has problems against bigger fighters as evident against Taylor. Taylor could of easily won the fight if he didn't move backwards and kept pressing forward. Calzaghe is a much better technical fighter then Taylor.

Bernard is recognized by The Ring magazine as the LHW champion.

The Ring belt counts, usually moreso than any other belt in the division.

That is why Joey Cal was considered the champ instead of Mikkel Kessler, even though Calzaghe only had the WBO belt, and Kessler had the WBA and WBC belts. It's because Calzaghe was recognized by The Ring as the champ.

The Ring belt is great IF you have one of the 4 major belts to go with it.

This would be a big payday for both fighters, but I just don't think Winky is big enough to beat a Top 3 p4p fighter like Calzaghe. I think if Winky wants a shot at winning a another World Title, his best option would be to return to MW.

If this fight were to happen, I think that maybe Wink might take page out of Floyd and Zab's book by coming in well under the 168 limit, maybe around 163, 164.

When he came in right on the money at 170 vs. Hopkins, he has the same problems Hatton did against Collazo when he came in right on the money at 147, and similarly to De La Hoya in the Sturm fight. They couldn't move as much, the extra weight wasn't good for them because they weren't experienced with that kind of mass on them.

calzaghe wins by UD. wright ain't so good at the higher weights. calzaghe can also outwork him and is faster.

The Ring belt is great IF you have one of the 4 major belts to go with it.

The reason that The Ring belt is head and shoulders above all others in the LHW division is this...

Tarver had an ABC belt after he beat Jones.
Johnson had a separate ABC belt after he beat Jones (but not because of it).

They both vacated their ABC belts so they could fight for The Ring title, as the true #1 and #2 of the division.

Hopkins beat Tarver, has The Ring belt, and the lineal title of two other belts.

A story like that makes possession of an ABC belt pretty obselete.

Did you not read what he said? He was talking about how Calzaghe's technique is better than Taylor's he's not comparing Taylor's power to Calzaghe's. Calzaghe would put the pressure on Winky for 12 rounds like he has done with all of his opponents. Like I always say, It's not easy to win a UD against someone who throws 1000+ punches a fight. I could not see Winky winning this other than a KO which is pretty damn unlikely.

The step up in comp from Bika, Manfredo, Kessler to Winky will be HUGE.

Winky has fought Taylor, Hopkins, Tito, Mosley twice, Quartey......Winky will not be fazed.

and apart from Hopkins there ALL smaller men than calzaghe and none of them have the punch output and speed the calzaghe does. I think calzaghe will break winky apart over 12 rounds to a comfortable UD. He has the speed and hits from angles, Winky shouldn't fight at 168 or 175 too high a weight for a small man, he should stay at 160 maybe fight Pavlik if he comes down after fighting Taylor or take a fight with Abraham now.
