I wanted to see Vic vs Arce...The irony is both were beaten by good counterpunchers...

      Mijares is for real.

I'm in the Philippines right now and I'm waiting for the Donaire fight to be put on over free TV. I guess, so are most of the Filipinos here. That may account for the silence on these boards about it.

I can't get Tarver. It's not on here.

There's another fight which will be on a competing channel-- a local one-- which shall be aired at about the same time as Donaire-Maldonado (I believe). The card has Rey Bautista in his first appearance after the loss to Ponce De Leon. A Filipino prospect named AJ Banal will be in it too.

I'll find the "remote" the best gadget man has ever invented.

Neither of the two sets of fights is on yet. They're being plugged though. It is said that the telecasts will start less than an hour from now. 10:30 AM, Philippine Time. That's just 45 minutes away.

Donaire stopped Maldonado with just a little over a minute gone in the 8th round. Donaire dominated from the gitgo, although when Donaire, inexplicably shifted to a southpaw stance in the fourth round, Maldonado managed to make a fight of it.

For the most part Donaire was landing at will with his vaunted left hook, along with straight rights and uppercuts. He blodied Maldonado's face as early as the second (a cut over the left eye) and again in the third.

Maldonado was dropped late in the 7th. An uppercut sent Maldonado back, stagerring. Donaire followed that up with a left hook to the side of the head.

Maldonado rose before the tenth count and then the bell rung to end the round.

With a minute having passed in the 8th, Donaire's right straight landed smack on Maldonado's face. The latter was clearly rocked. Donaire followed up with combinations that pushed Maldonado back to the ropes. Seeing that he was not hitting Maldonado as well as he should have, Donaire stepped back for a second then resumed pumelling the challenger. A semi-left-hook/uppercut got to Maldonado's chin, prompting the ref to step in.

Maldonado's corner did not protest the ref's decision.

Interesting sidelight: Donaire used to spend a lot of time in the home of cutman/cornerman Jimmy MOntoya, who today was in Maldonado's corner.

I had thought that they will unhook after the Donaire fight, but they're airing Forrest right now, so I'll get back on these boards a little later. Round 1 has just ended. Maybe they'll carry everything straight up to the Tarver fight. I hope so.

Bautista's fight in the other channel has not started yet. They still have the undercard featuring local fighters that I don't know anything about.
