This Dawson kid seems okay. Wont excite the masses and he has that boring counterpunching one punch style ala Tarver.
Are you kidding me? Did you see the beat down he gave to Adamek? You don't think that's exciting? How about his last fight against Mendoza where he finished him off in impressive fashion like a true technical fighter suppose to.

Okay Cliff let me rephrase a bit. I meant that you can perfectly say that Winky is not a light heavyweight, but Joe is, at least will be when he fights Bernard because it won't be at a catchweight. Basically I'm saying I gove credit to Bernard for fighting Joe at light heavyweight. Joe is more of a challenge at light heavyweight now than anyone else, and that includes Chad Dawson (whom I make it a point to be ringside for his fights, thats if Rick lets me). Chad needs a bit more seasoning against some tough guys, and Ruiz and company don't fit the bill. I was stoked about Dawson/Diaconu, and disappointed when it fell through, but thats boxing. This division will right itself once some egos get popped and Showtime grows a pair.
The Diaconu-Dawson should happen soon and if he doesn't fight Diaconu before April 25 his belt will be stripped. Right now Diaconu's promoter (Interbox) and Dawson's promoter (Garyshaw) are having a hard time negotiating the fight, so apparently the fight will go to purse bids in January 7. There is a persistent rumor going on in Canada that Dawson might not fight Diaconu, and just hand him the belt. Of course I think that's bull**** because, A that would make Dawson look bad, B those Canadians are obviously biased towards there fighters, and C you don't always trust what the papers say. I don't understand why Interbox is giving Dawson a hard time because it was Diaconu who postponed the fight.

huh, I haven't heard anything about this (doesn't mean that all or any of it is false). I can try to find out more, I don't have any friends in the business from Canada, but I do have some that are relatively close. I agree, I don't see Dawson trying to duck Diaconu unless a fight with Tarver is imminent. However, I've been told and I saw something similar from Dan Rafael that SHowtime is aiming for a Dawson/Johnson showdown. Not the same appeal as a fight with Tarver, but definitely better than most fights for Dawson. The Dawson camp knows that a fight with undefeated Diaconu means a lot to Chad's reputation as well, as does having a title so I doubt Chad will give it up. And Adrian needs to keep that rhetoric to himself if that is the case because as you stated it was he who pulled out of the fight.

Hopkins and Tarver needs to quit ducking people and let Dawson unify.

Yes Garyshaw had Dawson setup to fight Johnson in April, but that was before the WBC orderded a timetable to fight his mandatory. I think the reason why the fight isn't official yet is because Interbox wants the fight in Montreal, but Dawson doesn't want to fight in Canada, and there was probably money issues as well. To me it doesn't really matter where Dawson fights, but since he's the champion he's the one who should be calling the shots, not Interbox. So the fight will go to purse bids instead. There should be some news about this fight maybe next week.

The WBC has stated that both promoters have now 30 days to set a deal otherwise they'll go to purse bid on Jan 7. According to Diaconu's promoter, the odds are pretty good that purse bid will be held.
He's the most pomising young fighter, but he's not the man yet.

                .
He fought an outstanding boxing match by staying out of range and firing quick combinations, but that was not a "beatdown," and it was hardly a prime RJJ/Tyson kind of display. He also got dropped by the only big punch he took, and lost all the rounds after that. He's a very good boxer and should beat Hopkins or Tarver, but he's not going to become a huge media star.

I can agree with you on that.

Actually the rounds were pretty close. He was still landing consistently at will in rounds 11 and 12, and that was the "only" close rounds the entire fight. You can give those rounds to Adamek because he was landing punches, but you can also give those rounds to Dawson as well since he was still blasting away.

but he's not going to become a huge media star.
                  That remains to be seen.

Clinton Woods would beat Dawson. Unlike, Adamek, Woods would hit back and the results would be interesting. Woods by TKO? A possibility.

You really don't think Adamek hit back, than how did Dawson go down? I was ringside for that fight and it was a great fight. Dawson didn't lose every round like previously stated after he was dropped and he came back firing. The kid isn't the second coming of Bob Foster, but he is marketable and is the best thing the division has in terms of a future.
