The second one was a publicity stunt. It's not even debatable as to which one matters.

The same is true of Ali-Frazier. What happened in manilla was just a show, Frazier already had him for life, just like Duran did Leonard.

Not that it makes any difference, maybe it does, but legend has always been that Duran had to sweat off a crazy amount of weight for the rematch. He moved up to junior middleweight right after the loss.

He told us at an after dinner talk that he struggled with weight, had been living a bad lifestyle (drinking loads of champagne, partying all the time) and hadnt trained properly for it.

Yes Hatton take inspiration from whatever you need to. Also take inspiration when Lloyd Honeyghan..another brit mugged a American boy. And Randolph Turpin beating the SRR. Im sure there are others as well.

What people don't realize is Leonard fought the wrong fight and it STILL was close. When he fought his fight, he boxed circles around Duran. Hatton and Mayweather are different in many ways. Mayweather will fight his fight, but that doesn't mean he can't be beat by Hatton, but the odds are stacked against him. Hattons left to the body and Mayweather's uppercuts will be their best punches in the fight. I think it will turn out more exciting than any fight each of them has had before. It will be held at a fever pitch.

posters just ignore Gavin...You must not have saw the first fight..even in the 2nd and 4th round when Duran landed great shots and rocked Leonard. he came back and fougth back. Once again Gavin you think that your the only one who saw bits and pieces of the figth, when I and others have the entire fight. I have seen it backwards and forward over 500 times.

It is popular myth that Duran whipped ray. It was a very very very close fight, and only those who do not know how to luck at the actual action, think that Ray was whipped. It was clearly durans style of fight, and Ray's back was against the ropes,,but after the 4th round Ray and duran exchanged on even terms,,in fact the judges ( all three of them) awarded ray more rounds from rounds 5-15 than they did Duran..All 3 judges....

Porlie,,,Liston drank too much before the 1st fight with Ali. James toney sweated off too much weight,Liston was threatened by the mobb before the 2nd fight....Douglass got a energetic boost when his mother died..Leonard had the flu before the first fight with Duran...Roy Jones had to lose a insane amount of weight before the tarver fight...Ali just was not the same before the the first frazier fight........

Starting to get my drift. Every fight can have excuses. Many times the losing fighter offers an excuse...However 99.9% of the time true fight fans dont listen to them, because WHAT MATTERS IS WHAT HAPPENS INSIDE THE RING.. To continue the whinning about stomach cramps is a joke, and actually insults the person who types it...shows they are not operating with a full deck of cards...Who the f.,,,,, cares...every fighter alive has had to deal with pains during a fight much worse than a cramp,,,if it did happen when Duran has stated in his book it didnt..His corner when first asked never knew of any cramps... But so what, did duran give everyone their money back, NO...So he got paid, he should have performed..Other than that,,he was getting his ass handed to him, when Ray decided to box him his style..We so who the real man was, when it came to ray fighting Durans style Ray barely lost a close fight....and stayed in there...When it came to Duran fighting rAy
s fight Ray easily humiliated him and duran could not deal with being made to look like a fool and quit....

Leonard was only 23 (or 22 in 1980?) and he made a horrible mistake fighting flat footed but he lost by a close decision: not bad, don't you think?
