Joe Louis is the most popular boxer to ever exist.

You could take Ali, Tyson, De La Hoya, Chavez, Duran, and Leonard, amalgamate their popularity and it still wouldn't compare to that of the "Brown Bomber". Anyone disagree with my assessment?

Well, Ali's fame, if that's what you mean by "popularity" was extensive as well. If you mean good guy "popularity", then I would agree...especially after his defeat of Schmelling (spelling?).

I disagree but hes very popular (well known if thats what you meant), and even more so when he was in his prime.

Joe Louis was extremely popular for sure, but without satellite TV, internet, etc. I don't see how he could be more popular than the fighters you mentioned COMBINED, especially with the increase in population and all.

Ali was more popular world wide than Joe Louis. In fact, Ali was known as the most recognizable man in the world in the 70's. Louis was just the most popular sports icon of his time.
