His defense was based almost purely on reflexes, which is why towards the end of his career he started to get hit a lot. Mayweather covers up much better in addition to using reflexes and has never been hit, hence, has better defense. Offensively, again, he hits harder at any weight than Pernell did, has faster hands (even though he doesn't use them as much), and is a better counter puncher imo and more accurate. Only slightly though. Whitaker is by no means the "all around better fighter".Comment

He's not the better all-around fighter if what you said was actually true. His defense was based almost purely on reflexes, which is why towards the end of his career he started to get hit a lot. I love Whitaker, don't get me wrong. Based on opposition + talent, I might even rate him slightly above Floyd, but style wise, I'd lean towards Floyd. But I also agree with Black Jesus in that neither fighter would take every fight against each other.Comment

Honestly I think it's a pick 'em fight.
I mean a fight this close would be so circumstancial, that trying to actually predict the winner of a fantasy fight between these two, you could debate forever.Comment

i have to disagree, at 140, if they fought at this weight, i see floyd possibly knocking him out or down. floyd was more offensive at this weight and his pressure would have given pernell hell. floyd sat down on his punches, and if he didn't knock pernell out, i see the ref stopping the fight because floyd was a kille rat this weight, and i'm not basing it on just the gatti fight, but i don't pernell hurting floyd at any weight, but i do see floyd systematically breaking pernell down at this weight class though. pernell is tough as hell which is why i would lean towards a tko for floyd(which i should have typed instead), but nonetheless, i see floyd breaking sweet pea down.Comment
