Joe is a dumb **** for this one. After all, Roy Jones was one of the first names he brought up after beating Kessler, and now, he's chiding Hopkins for mentioning him.

Incorrect. Unless by "being brought up" you mean dismissed him as there'd be no value in beating a shot RJJ.

to be fair though Hopkins called Calzaghe out 1st though after the Winky fight before Joe had even fought Kessler

Eh false. You need to read the interviews he had right after his fight with Kessler. Roy Jones was second only to Hopkins, and he also mentioned Pavlik.

"I've been 10 years a champion and won four major belts, what else is there to do?

"All those guys, Roy Jones, Bernard Hopkins let's do it...I've shown tonight what I'm all about. I'm looking to fight for another 12 months and I just want big fights now.

Joe named Hopkins as his favoured opponent, but also said that if that didnt come off he'd be quite happy to face RJJ or Pavlik. I find it quite funny that Bernards exact words were "Bring Joe Calzaghe over here and I'll beat him too" yet after Joe beats Kessler and says he wants a Hopkins fight, Bernard starts talking about fighting somebody else. If Hopkins was the legend he says he is, he'd fight anyone. Good news is that we wont have to see Joe humiliate an old man, and instead watch him fight someone who still throws punches.

Hopkins is 43 in a few weeks, I don't really see the value

These Hopkins and Jones fights would have been great 5-10 years ago, no good trying to make up for lost time this late...

Hopkins probably thought that he could beat Calzaghe until the Kessler match and now isn't too sure of it.

Why would an older guy fight someone if he won't gain anything unless he wins emphatically.

You dont have to beat Calzaghe emphatically to get recognition, Calzaghe is one of the greatest fighters alive and to hand him his first defeat in any fashion is good enough.
