I agree with ya here and I'll take it a step further. It's might be too early to say but, chagaev( or his promoters) probably want him too hold on to the belt for at least awhile and this is a sure way to do it. As for future bouts, the WBA is holding a title eliminator with the winner of Valuev-Liahovich getting a shot...

I agree 100%, Ruslan Chagaev is good but nothing special, he is way overrated.Im beginning to have my doubts about chageav. first he pulls out of a unification fight with sultan,,,now looks to fight none other than 41 yr old skelton? his biggest wins were very very close decisions over beatable guys like valuev and ruiz and apparently he was given a gift decision over virchis. maybe he's not as good as most of us thought and his promoters and himself know this? I dont know,,,,Im now having my doubts about this guy. I wouldnt be surprised if he ducks the wlad/sultan winner and fights another can
He fought to a draw against mediciore fighter in Calloway, but avenged it later in a rematch, he barely beat Ruiz and Valuev (Close decision) and he was given a wrapped gift against Vladimir virchis. He beat Valuev therefore everyone thinks he is "great". And now he is fighting a 42 Year old, his promoters milking before he gets that L.
I think he will lose soon once he steps up, he should have dominated Johnny Ruiz if he was as good as people say he is.Comment

Chagaev's promoter Klaus-Peter Kohl is already discussing a 2nd unification fight, but like you said, there are the god damn mandatories. Chagaev and his handlers will have to try and get Lyakhovich or Valuev to accept a step aside fee, but that is easier said than done.I agree with ya here and I'll take it a step further. yup,,and larry donald actually seemed to beat valuev more convincingly even though he was robbed by the judges. I wish chageav would defend against virchis in a rematch. then we'd see just how good both fighters are. all in a perfect world unfortunatelyI agree 100%, Ruslan Chagaev is good but nothing special, he is way overrated.

Anyone heard of any tenative dates for this fight? The earlier in 2008, the better. So far we have Klitschko-Ibragimov and Peter-Maskaev, both in February..Comment

Ruslan Chagaev vs Matt Skelton will be taking in February or March in Germany. The timing is perfect, hopefully Chagaev dosen't duck Wlad and he fights him in the summer.Comment

It got stopped in the third because of a head butt.I agree 100%, Ruslan Chagaev is good but nothing special, he is way overrated.

Sure Chagaev isn't on the road to becoming an all time great
but the Valuev fight really wasn't all that close ... Nicolay was chasing Ruslan and getting tagged almost every time
go by the scorecards if you want, but by no means was it a "close fight" .. after the final bell it was very obvious who won the fight.
dunno if this came up, but Ruslan pulled out of the Sultan fight because of a stomach virus or something injury/health related, he didn't duck him.
and Ibragimov is the worst belt holder .. he won't even last 8 rounds vs Wlad.Comment
