    Ken Norton
    Joe Frazier

    George Foreman

    are these

    Oscar De La hoya
    Diego Corrales

and the fact that Ali isnt as hated on as PBF is for the same antics means there is something of substance there and its not just because of his personallity. if you guys would just pop PBF's nuts from your mouth for atleast 2 seconds, you'd see what it is.
I don't think PBF is the greatest so that was never my gripe. But about the lists you just put up. List everybody that is truly legendary from this era. You can't blame fighters for the era that they were born in. Yes they are some very good fighters in this era some borderline great. But you don't have many legendary fighters in this era and that is nobodies fault.

Floyd and Ali's methods for rising their stock as the greatest fighter of all time are exactly the same, yet one gets praised and the other gets ridiculed.
I think maybe the major factor is that Ali was FUNNY.

For one, DON'T compare what Mayweather does with what Ali DID. For one, Ali did it in a unique way as he was essentially the first fighter to thrive off the "controversy" of the things he said and the antics that he took part in.

Mayweather, essentially isn't doing anything different. It works, I'll grant him that. But it's like comparing apples, to the tree.

Second of all, Ali often backed up his claims with action-packed fights and even made good on rounds that he picked.

Mayweather, is trying to sell a fight. He claims things, and has backed some up. Has fallen short more so than not. He always wins (so far) but it's hardly ever "toe to toe." He has a chance still, because he's fighting someone more his size, but it is what it is.

FINALLY, Ali was a icon for many different reasons. He had a much more social side to him, and when he said those things, you got the feeling that he was just taking a break from the real serious side of his life. It's easier to justify when the guy has a flair for what he says.

Mayweather is good at what he does. But he doesn't do it in the same way as Ali.

Mayweather wants to prove something.. Ali did, aswell. But when they talk, they're proving completely different things.

          Sportsmanship?
Ali was one of the worst sports in history, look at the things he did and said to Fraizer, and his fight with Terrell.

That is irrelevant to being great.
Gatti is an exciting fighter, too.

Watch his interviews after Ali v Foreman and Ali v Fraizer III.
"Im the greatest fighter of all time and Joe Fraizer is the greatest of all time second only to me."

I'm not talking about what they claim. I'm talking about MAKING claims. No one can prove who was greater, and quite frankly.. I don't give a ****. What I'm saying is, Ali got matched against GREAT opponents, and he backed up his claims. Exciting, with skills.

That gives him room to say certain things that some might feel a defensive fighter shouldn't be making. Like.. "I'm gonna massacre him." With what? Shoulder roll him to death?

NOTE: I love defensive fighters, don't make bull**** claims, however.
