Paul Williams was his mandatory, he is also a better fighter than Cotto. I think Williams is the best in the world at 147, he probably won't be able to make weight much longer though.

What happened is that Williams' Promoter (Goosen) made it very public that he was willing to give Margarito his biggest payday (while Williams didn't make ****) because he thought Williams would beat him. How can "the most feared man in boxing" justify turning down his mandatory (again) after accusing everyone else of ducking him? I always said that he needed to do things the right way by earning his way to a big money fight like some of the other champs, which is why I wanted him to fight Williams even though I really wanted to see Cotto bust his ass up and knew he wouldn't even get by Williams.
