I'm not too familiar with this story.
Can someone explain Margo's reasoning on fighting Williams over Cotto?

Williams was his mandatory, but he had an opportunity to fight Cotto. He was leaning towards a Cotto fight, then all the Margo haters claimed he was ducking Williams. He then chose to keep his belt and defend it against his mandatory (Williams) then all the Margo haters claimed he was ducking Cotto! LOL.Comment

What happened is that Williams' Promoter (Goosen) made it very public that he was willing to give Margarito his biggest payday (while Williams didn't make ****) because he thought Williams would beat him. How can "the most feared man in boxing" justify turning down his mandatory (again) after accusing everyone else of ducking him?
I always said that he needed to do things the right way by earning his way to a big money fight like some of the other champs, which is why I wanted him to fight Williams even though I really wanted to see Cotto bust his ass up and knew he wouldn't even get by Williams.Comment

Two reasons:
1. Williams was his mandatory, margarito would have got stripped of the title if he did'nt face him next
2. Margarito got offered more money in the Williams fight then he was getting for the Cotto fight, so he choose the fight where he got more money.Comment
