mayweather wanted a mega fight with Oscar de la Hoya, but it is well known that Mayweather's promoter at the time, Bob Arum and Oscar don't get along too well and because of that, the fight was least likely to happen. Mayweather then buys out his contract so he can pursue a mega fight with de la Hoya.

not necessarily money, I think Floyd knew Oscar didn't wanna do business with Arum @ the time and he was looking to fight oscar. So he Floyd pretty much bought out his contract with Arum. Plus I think he wanted to promote himself.

I am lazy bear with me. Floyd feels he has been cheated by Arum and mispromoted for most of his career. He feels fights that he has garnered 3 mil from he should have recieved double that but didn't because Arum took a chunk of his earnings. Floyd believes fighters are the ones that put themselves on the line and Arum is taking advantage of them.

There is an interview he said that he wants to promote himself because there is so much fees going to the promoter who is a third party. Mayweather thing he should drop the 3rd party which take so much money for nothing and instead this money goes to his pocket.

as being a p4p fight he doesnt really need a promoter because many fighters wanna fight him. It is just the price he is going to give them.
