Floyd was the one who came up with the idea. I give him credit for that. All im saying is that given the way their fight was marketed/promoted, many fights can do MUCH bigger numbers if they follow the same strategy.

This poll is a joke, Mayweather shouldn't even be in this poll. Floyd is probably the most hated fighter because he is boring as hell and he acts like a 6 year old immature douchebag. Just like Hatton said "I have 33,000 fans that want to see me fight in Las Vegas, Floyd has 33"

Hatton,Wlad and Pacquiao have the most fans so they're the three most popular fighters. Oscar De La Hoya can still draw a ton of fans because of his popularity, he is the reason so many people bought Oscar/Floyd.

For all the people who voted for Floyd:

Definitions of popular on the Web:

regarded with great favor, approval, or affection especially by the general public.

Does that sound like Floyd to you?

ok guys, stop being picky. Im sure this topic regards 'popular' as 'well known'. Mayweather is extremely well known. especially after Dancing With The Stars and the De La Hoya fight.

but that may be only in America. Im sure in Britain, Calzaghe and Hatton are more well known. and in the Phillipines...yea.

Floyd deserves credit for the 2.5 million but not as much as Oscar. Plus those were unprecedented circumstances. People were desperate for a superfight so I think it was a once in a lifetime thing. Just for the sake of argument: How many bought his PPV with Zab Judah? Didn't fans walk out on his win over Carlos Baldomir? How many people showed up to see him fight Sharmba Mitchell when he was headlining? Doesn't have the makings of the most popular fighter. He is the most volatile figure amongst us huge fight fans but not amongst the more casual fans

yep they sure did. during or right after the 11th. he even had Charles Barkely and Tiger Woods walking out. thats sad. Floyd is good but not exciting.

since it says popular i cant pick Floyd. it says most popular. Pacman has gotta be it then on the list.

What Floyd has been doing is ride the coattails of POPULAR fighters in order to make a name for himself. Gatti, Oscar, Hatton......These are all popular fighters.

TO be fair most fighters become popular by taking out names of popular fighters. Bernard is a boring boxer but he now sells a decent amount of PPV's based on names like Trinidad and De La Hoya. Winky Wright made his name off Shane Mosley and Tito. THere's always a piggybacking effect. That said, we'll find out some about Floyd's popularity in a few weeks. If he can't do 500K PPV buys or better then I don't want to hear about his popularity anymore.
