i agree with the trainer..
Could Hopkins Face Jones Instead of Calzaghe?

yeah he could but he wouldn't get that much credit for beating jones now, a calzaghe fight and win against joe, he will get way more creditComment

I agree, Jones vs. Hopkins II couldn't be happening at a better time. Before Jones lost to Tarver most people wouldn't have given Hopkins a chance, but both fighters have faded now so it could be exciting. Jones vs. Calzaghe would be good too, but Calzaghe vs. Hopkins wouldn't mean anything. If Joe beats Hopkins people won't give him any credit saying he beat an overaged fighter, if Hopkins wins he will have won in a boring fashion against a smaller opponent.
I'd rather see Roy beat a beltholder and avenge his losses to Tarver and maybe Johnson (who's still very dangerous)Comment

I would much rather see Calzaghe vs Jones if this is the case.
Who is Hopkins to get 60% of the purse when the fight is in his country?
He thinks he's the main attraction, when he couldn't be further from the truth.
Jones would be a much more entertaining fight anyway.Comment

Sounds like since calzaghe and hopkins both want there fights in there back yards that Jones has a great chance to fight either of them instead... we already know Roy is willing to go to the UK and take the smaller purse.. Id be more than happy to see Roy fight either of them..Comment

Circumstances...
First off, I have no idea why joe c. would persist on having his terms met as far as making a fight with b-hop come to fruition. Indeed, he may have been the man at 168 but he's now thinking of vacating his titles and moving up to light heavy where he has to make his bones. If he wants to call the shots then he should remain at 168 where he's the recognized champ. Hopkins has beaten both tarver (the recognized champ at the time whether you choose to admit it or not) & winky wright (who was in the top 3 or 4 p4p rankings for at least 2..3 yrs prior to their bout) even while fighting in his early 40's. He's a top dawg at 175 no matter how anyone chooses to view it & even at 42 is still in most so called experts top 5 p4p fighters today. If calzaghe wants to be the man then he needs to come & beat the man whether it's coming to the US to fight or taking a smaller share of the purse because he's in no position to dictate jack**** at 175 IMO. Sure, the stadium in wales could house thousands of his hometown supporters but if they're truly fans then they'll simply do what hatton's fans have done and make airline reservations w/ their local travel agents. Yankee stadium's seating capacity is just under 58k so between the gate revenue and the ppv proceeds money shouldnt be an issue regardless of location. Calzaghe has done nothing at 175 to insist upon steering the negotiations. It's not as though he'd be fighting a bum. Hopkins is ranked just above joe c. in most p4p rankings & has accomplished just as much (if not more) and has a more recognized catalogue of past opponents. He should either take a 55/45 or 60/40 split and bring his azz to the bronx next spring if he's the fighter he claims to be.
Many folks like to talk -ish about mayweather but he conceded pretty much every stipulation in his negotiations w/ de la hoya including venue, ring size, type of gloves to be worn, wgt class, as well as purse & ppv split. Hell, he even had to give golden boy an option to co-promote his next fight which is why you see the GB stamp on floyd's upcoming bout w/ hatton. Floyd gave oscar ALL the leverage and did we see him bitchin' about it?? (mind you, Mayweather was been considered boxing's best figther for several years now)
Calzaghe needs to 1) shut the f@ck up, bring his behind to the US..take a smaller share of the purse, fight & hopefully win..2) stay at 168 where he can be THE MAN or 3) move up in wgt & fight a less recognized opponent (or perhaps fight RJJ who would only be willing to fight in wales at this pt because he's trying to get back to where he was in 2002-03 in terms of stature..but even roy wouldnt have entertained going over there in his hey day). Hopkins (regardless of age) is still considered one of the best fighters CURRENTLY and is at the top of the lt heavy heap (love or hate it).Comment
