I got my man Pun in this fight, but I can see him winning this fight without a meaningful punch between both fighters.
A Floyd Fan's perspective: Paul W. would beat Floyd

I actually think Floyd would be an even better fighter once he no longer had to worry about losing the 0.Comment

he would have to be damn near perfect to defeat floyd, which i dont' see happening although i do believ ethat williams would be his toughest foe and i have been claiming this for quite sometime now unlike others on here who every other month seem to believe that such and such would have the best chance to beat floyd. 1st, shane, then hatton, then williams, then cotto, then whoever else. paul williams would be floyd's toughest opponent bar none, yet he would be his toughest fight in a losing effort. floyd knows how to angle himself at the right distance against taller fighters, and as far as paul punching a lot, this would prove dumb against floyd imo because of the way floyd utilizes the ring. paul, unless he has a night of flawless stamina, will tire out trying to hit floyd, who will block many of his punches. take into account, floyd has claimed for many years that in order to be a great defensive/offensive minded fighter, you have to find your distance and he knows distance very well. paul williams would have to fight very smart to beat floyd, and imo paul is a pretty smart fighter and times his punches well even while throwing many, because he is patient. but, paul is great at overwhelming his opponents with hi spunch output because they really don't have any time to react because he is constantly throwing, but floyd is the smartest fighter in boxing and is great at using fighter's timing against them, which he would do with willliams.Comment

i dont know if i think he would win...let alone by unanimous decision however i have been interested in seeing that fight. To me Paul Williams is a bigger verision of Corrales. Just as Corrales at 147, Paul wouldn't do well at 160lb despite his 6'2 frame. My advice for Paul is to forget about the multi-division champ approach and stay at 147 as long as possible and take the Calzaghe/Hopkins approach, defending his title and possibly setting a new record of title defenses at welterweight.
Because at 147 he is a problem. He has great stamina, a solid chin and a high work rate. You add the height/reach advantage over everybody to that and he is close to unbeatable. Floyd is obviously more skilled but with his punching power almost a non-factor at 147 and his Hopkins-esque increasement of using more defense then offense these days......I don't think he can beat Paul.
It's a lil bit of a combination of what Floyd isn't at 147 (a power puncher, as offensively minded as at 130lb) and what Paul Williams is (as I said in the highlighted part above) that leads me to believe that Floyd doesn't have a shot at even potshoting his way to a decision victory in this one. However his defense is too good to get knocked out.
Paul Williams by a wide Unaminous Decision
when i say williams against margarito around the 7th round i thought to myself; it would be great to see him against mayweather.
williams is tall and long armed which makes for an interesting fight against all the top fighters of the 147lb. division...i just dont know if i'd say he'd win against mayweather...
i think he can beat cintron...Comment

You say Floyd knows how to angle himself against taller fighters, but how many people has he fought that were 6'2". Floyd is good at avoiding punches, but can he avoid over 1200 punches in a fight? Floyd is a very good counterpuncher, but it's a little tougher when the guy has a 82 in reach. The scary thing is, Williams is going to get better. Floyd's best chance is to fight him now before he does. I agree with Vlad in that Paul should stay at WW as long as he can. However, since he weighed in at 162 on fight night against Margarito, I can see him making this weight for a couple more years max.he would have to be damn near perfect to defeat floyd, which i dont' see happening although i do believ ethat williams would be his toughest foe and i have been claiming this for quite sometime now unlike others on here who every other month seem to believe that such and such would have the best chance to beat floyd.

I agree with the TC. Floyd doesn't have the power to keep Williams in a volume-boxing mode like Margarito did. When Paul sits down and becomes a straight, string-combination puncher, nobody at 147 is even close. He is an offensive hurricane. Floyd would land some nice shots, but his right hand counters wouldn't be enough. You can't beat Paul Williams unless you can hurt him, IMO. Thank God he's so tough. The toughness is the reason I think he beats Cintron and Cotto as well.
