People like to feel better about themselves and can't comment on the fighters they know so little about so they thrash these people for being fans of their favorite fighters.Originally posted by Asian StormWhy all the fuss about these fighters fans?

I wouldn't make a fuss about SOME of the fans if I belived they weren't motivated purely by race, or geographical pride.
If you're a Filipino, & love Pac, but have a realistic view of him & other fighters out there...I have no problem with you.
I don't care if you root like a rabid dog for him....just don't debate certain things if you're not bringing anything but your LOVE of the guy.
If we're talking "dream fights" , & you say Pac would KO Azumah Nelson in 1 or 2 rds., do not expect to have anyone (besides blind folk like yourself) respect your opinion.
Expect those who know better to come hammer you with facts & informed opinions.
This very same thing applies to the Klits, Tito, Morales......anybody.Comment

I agree about outrageous remarks like Pac KOing Nelson, Morales in a round or two but it's gotten to a point where whatever we say about Manny is regarded as being either biased or illogical just cuz I'm a filipino. I have always given reasons and valid arguments. Having followed his career, I have reasons to believe he's gonna go a long way. It just gets annoying that we're constantly dubbed as nuthuggers when we are fans of a fighter who we believe is just THAT good. That just my opinion.Originally posted by jabsRstiffI wouldn't make a fuss about SOME of the fans if I belived they weren't motivated purely by race, or geographical pride.

The "fuss" is all about nationalistic pride. But with Pacquiao, he has this sort of Felix Trinidad appeal, where non-filipinos can appreciate his exciting style and explosive power. I noticed growing up that alot of my non-Puerto Rican friends were just as big Trinidad fans as the Puerto Rican people. Believe me, after watching the Pacquiao-Barrera fight, I thought the same thing about "The Baby-Faced Assassin".Comment

See, the thing about Manny is that he can be outboxed if you survive his initial outburst in the first few rounds, and can find some sort of counter to his handspeed after that. He should have won the decision against Marquez (I think one of the judges scored thr round 10-7 for whatever reason), but I think he would lose in a rematch against JMM. I've heard that Manny doesn't exactly have an iron chin either (because of the early KO losses in his career), but I've never seen video evidence to support that claim. Anyway, like was said before, there's "fuss" about Pac-Man because he deserves it. He's a top three fighter in a tough division and takes tough fights when he doesn't really need to.
To be honest, I agree with your comment about the Klitschko brothers though. Wlad has a very good offensive skill set, but he tires easily, has a terrible chin/balance, and a lack of fundamental defensive technique. Vitali isn't a huge power puncher no matter what his KO percentage is. He "clubs" with a lot of his shots, and yes, they do have quite a bit of power. But he's not in the same class as someone like a Lewis, Tua, or Tyson .What Vitali has is more confidence in the ring, a better chin (still not great though in my opinion), slightly better defense, and better stamina. Vitali is fighting in one of the weakest Heavyweight divisions of all time, but he gets a lot of "hype" because he's A) A big, strong white guy and B)People think he's never really been "beaten". Against Byrd he quit plain and simple. The Lewis that showed up to fight him was in worse shape than the one who McCall and Rahman KO'ed. He couldn't pass that test either. Wlad has no chance of being a great champion, while Vitali still could be thanks to the lack of quality opposistion.Comment
