Why did Steward step on Floyd?

Last night Emanuel Steward blasted Floyd by saying that if he beat Hatton and did not fight Cotto, then Floyd should not be #1.

That sounded like a public comment on Floyd's known propensity for cherry picking opponents. Boxing needs more honesty like this.

What do you think Steward meant?

What did he mean? Umm... what he said, maybe?

Can't happen, anyway. The #1 on each list is only seceeded when they lose. Example is the new slew of fighters taking the spot after Jones lost... even though Jones was picking questionable opponents, he didn't lose the spot until actually losing a fight.

If Floyd gets past Hatton and decides not to fight Cotto, that would be a real ***** move. **** all the " he wont fight him because he hates arum talk". What is he 12? Oscar and Arum have settled thier differences, and now look. There are megafights happening because of it. Floyd needs to grow up and stop acting like a 13yr old with her period. There is no other logical fight for Floyd BUT Cotto!

IF FLOYD DOESN'T FIGHT THE NUMBER 2 WELTER HIM BEING NUMBER ONE
HE DOESN'T DESERVE TO BE NUMBER ONE

I think it's pretty obvious what he meant. And he was right. If Floyd won't fight the best then he's gotta go. Simple as that.

But, then again he's gotta get by Hatton and that's no easy chore, IMO.

I think you're right. He MUST fight Cotto next. But that doesn't mean he loses his spot.

Steward has always been against Floyd. Not surprised by this at all.

I think Steward was being honest about it. No way Mayweather is number one if he dodges Cotto, like he did Tszyu. No way. IF Floyd gets by Hatton, he should just retire if he won't fight Cotto. At least then he could say he believes he was the greatest of all time because he was undefeated. It's laughable, but at least he could say it.

What he meant by that is, he needs to fight Cotto, period.
