    Mosley Not The Same Fighter

Mosley Not The Same Fighter IMO allthough im a big Cotto i am taking nothing away from Cotto's victory it was fantastic and nobody was more happy for him than me just being objective when i say this

Just an observation but Mosley's stamina was suspect his hand speed was'nt as quick as it used to be & his reactions were slow Cotto was hitting him with jabs all night ,i knew Cotto would get to Mosley eventually and he would tire as i pointed out a couple of days ago the body attacks finally took there toll on Mosley and he began to look his age

Cotto was not known to be fast, until now. He seems incredibly fast.

But is this new view because Mosley has gotten slower and his reputation of having been fast are making people think Cotto is faster than had been thought?

In the later rounds, I watched with some incredulity as Cotto sometimes slipped Mosley's offensive thrust near the ropes by merely sidestepping to his right leaving Mosley to deal with nothing but space-recently-vacated. Nobody had done that to Mosley that I can recall. If there was someone who did that to an opponent in a Mosley fight, it was Sugar Shane himself.

I also add, that with all the su****ions cast on Cotto's chin, he took some from Mosley that proved that, at his current fighting weight, his beard has become much tougher. Had Cotto's chin been of the variety that he had while fighting at the lower weight, Mosley would have triumphed.

edit: it's interesting that the slugger, who threw more power punches while landing less, won with jabs while the better "jabber" lost because he failed to land most of his jabs while landing most of his power punches.

    One learns something new...

Mosley isn't the same fighter I agree....but we all knew that...however in his current state and age, he is just as good as those out there in their prime...

which says a lot about what he was...

if anything, it was Cotto losing steam late in the fight...Mosley looked ready to go in the final rounds even though Cotto still moved well

Mosley was getting caught from the beginning his reflexes just weren't what they once were. Age is the one fight noone can win. Cotto fought a good fight and deserves the credit, superstardom is on his horizon.

Actually Shane's stamina was great. He was dead tired in the 5th but he fights better than any fighter in the sport when tired. IF you look back at the Collazo fight, he was tried early in that fight too. His hand speed has diminished some but by the end of the fight Cotto's hands weren't any faster so its a testament to Shane's conditioning that he fought so well late at his age. In the 5th round I thought Shane had no chance of going the distance and Shane surprised everyone

Cotto was also quicker than expected against Zab. The same Zab that was out boxing PBF with quicker hands and reflexes in the first 4-5 rounds. I think Cotto is deceptively faster than his opponents plan on him being.

Cotto's jab is a power jab and is not a range finder its meant to do damage in its own right. Cotto is also a lefty and that jab is more like a right hand (from traditional boxers).

Shane wasn't even jabbing like he should I hate that damn "touch you" jabe he throws to set up the overhand right. What ever happened to that "power" jab they kept discussing.

I think he didn't want to stick the jab out there too long and hard because he was eating counter rights. I think it was actually in his best interest to score with it and move out. Jack Mosley agrees with you but I think Shane knew he was getting tagged and had to do what it took to avoid those rights as much as possible

Good post, respect to a Cotto supporter for that kind of acknowledgement.

Mosley had some good moments but he was up and down. And for extended periods he was far less than to be desired. I totally agree.
