Joe Calzaghe vs. Lucian Bute

Did it make any difference really though? He absolutely hammered his nearest opposition and is headed for a big money fight in the US against Hopkins... Not saying it wouldn't have happened if he didn't fight Manfredo but I don't think it hurt him.Comment

No it doesn't. but you get fools who claim he's not the undisputed champion as he is without the IBF belt. In fact someone said that to me today. The Manfredo fight was pointless and no more lucrative or legacy defining than Steiglitz.Comment

IBF, he won it from Berrio... Calzaghe was stripped when he choose to not fight his mandatory so he could fight, THE MAN, Peter Manfredo Jr. Not particularly a great decision.
I'm not saying that Joe has anything to prove, it would just be nice to see his name in the record book for something that he clearly deserves.
**** you Tiger Ali Singh, racist piece of ****.

although on paper he wont be credited as the 2nd person to hold all four abc belts at one time every1 will no it was only politics that prevented itComment

No... he let himself get stripped, when he choose to fight Manfredo. That's not politics. Belts have mandatories, everyone knows that.Comment

Now that Joe's already taken Kessler he has nothing else to prove, he should go to light heavyweight for Hopkins in a big money spinner.
After being champ at 168 for so long its time for his step up.
If he takes out Bute, then people will say that he should wait around for Pavlik or Taylor. If he got by the winner of those people would expect him to give Froch a go.(providing he has a good 2008).
He would only end up moving up in 2 years time if he waited around for all of the potential contenders have their shot at him.Comment
