Anyone else notice Cotto Sparring without headgear?

Anyone else notice in the countdown video, towards the end of the video, it shows him sparring with a guy that has the gear on and he doesn't. They show this after mentioning he's a risk taker and likes to fight. Do you think spars occasionally without gear on to help him with his defense as if he was really in the fight already? I'm sure the guy he's sparring with has bigger gloves to not do as much damage, but never know.

they wouldnt risk that... would they???

They were probably working on some offensive stuff, and the guy wasnt throwing back or something...

If he was thats crazy. Thats like that Tyson exhibition fight, where the other guy had head gear but he didnt

for this big a fight??? are they crazy? How long does it take them to put on headgear... 15 seconds??? lol

People pay $$$ for those seats, all it takes is one glancing blow to open up a cut and postpone the fight! lol

My gym had mainly amatuers and the two pros we had, never sparred like this. Seriously, other than practicing your defense, what good can come out of it? It's seriously taking a risk of getting cut before the fight. As kball said, it only takes 1 punch that goes off the wrong end and cuts you open.

They usually take it easy when they have head gear off, well the other guy does. I remember watching Tysons sparring video in the 80 and he didnt have head gear on a few times, but his partner was going really light.Like throwing jabs and such. Certain things you cant see when you have head gear on if you're a pro.So I can understand his reasoning to take it off if he's trying to work on something.
