Hopkins will beat Calzaghe

There's nothing spectactular about Calzaghe that makes me think otherwise. he's just a guy with tremendous stamina who throws boatloads of weak, point scoring punches. Hopkins would not mix it up with him, and instead bait him and make him fight his style of fight all night long. Add in some headbutts, hip punches, and crisp counter right hands and Hopkins would outpoint him.
If the fight is made official, I'm looking your way for a bet.Comment

Don't get me wrong, I was impressed with Joe's performance last night and he certainly silenced some of his harshest critics. But I've seen the fight twice now and I just don't see what HBO wanted me to see, a "special" fighter in Calzaghe.
In Calzaghe, what I see is a guy who throws a lot of weak punches, goes backwards against offense, and leaves himself wide open when trading shots. Granted he's a great fighter and an accomplished Champion, but I think Hopkins will **** him up, badly at that.
Most people here would probably disagree with that statement, but those are the same people who've been waiting for Hopkins to retire for years. With his unorthodox style, Hopkins makes very active opponets inactive by using bait tactics. With his roughhouse inside fighting, Calzaghe won't be throwing nearly as much against a guy like Hopkins.
I see Hopkins fighting a very brilliant/dirty affair that will probably be one of so ugly it'd make Hopkins/Wright look like a masterful performance.
Still I think Hopkins will beat Calzaghe and beat him badly at that.Comment

I have said that, Hopkins has the ability to turn a fighters boxing style to shambles and disrupt it fully. Calzaghe can adapt with the best of them and has MANY styles. The question is, can Hopkins disrupst all the different looks that Calzaghe will give him?Comment

I can see Calzaghe beating Hopkins as well, but a lot of you guys on this board are just cum-drunk off of Calzaghe's performance against a one dimensional Kessler. I had Kessler pegged as a one dimensional robotic fighter for months. Calzaghe's performance was damn good and I give him credit, but c'mon, Kessler is no Hopkins. The only advantage he had over Joe was strength.Comment

Calz pulls punches somtimes, slaps sometimes. He can do all kinds of things. The one round (6?) when he pulled all the weak, "point scoring punches." That was a rythm thing to mess with Kessler, who had been timing the jab effectively until that point. In the context of the fight that was brilliant. But then he changed it back up after that. No one else does **** like that, systematically communicating to the opponent that he can outdo him in any way, shape or form he wants.
Calzaghe doesn't have a "style."Comment
