the funny thing about that fight with chico is that alot of people dont understand the stature that chico had at that time, mayweather beating him like that was a shock, at that time, i though tmayweather would get knocked out like everyone else and he ended up demolishing chico.Comment

I've watched that fight many times. To see what Floyd was doing. That left hand was sick. And distance control was key.the funny thing about that fight with chico is that alot of people dont understand the stature that chico had at that time, mayweather beating him like that was a shock, at that time, i though tmayweather would get knocked out like everyone else and he ended up demolishing chico.
Chico was highly rated p4p, and a slight favourite.
here is what Chico said before the fight....sound familiar?
"There's talk and then there's talk," Corrales said. "What he did was he crossed a line. He couldn't keep his mouth shut, but that just shows how ignorant he is. Whenever you talk about something you don't know a thing about, like Floyd has done with my situation, it shows your ignorance.
"He has his posse with him all the time, and they talk big and try to make him feel good. He needs that, I guess. He's not secure in who he is, so he needs people he pays to be around him and tell him how great he is. But you know what: I'm going to show everybody. All the talking and everything is over (tonight). It's just me and Floyd, and he's going to pay for what he's done."Comment

FIGHTING FOR RECOGNITION: Mayweather eyes Sugar-sweet win
Young champion hopes to emulate ring success of his idol, Ray Leonard
By KEVIN IOLE
REVIEW-JOURNAL
Since turning professional in 1996 after the Atlanta Olympics, Floyd Mayweather Jr. has been groomed to become the next Sugar Ray Leonard.
Tonight at 7 when Mayweather defends his World Boxing Council super featherweight championship against unbeaten Diego Corrales at the MGM Grand, he'll have a chance to repeat some of the success his idol enjoyed a generation earlier.
While the similarities between Mayweather and Leonard are striking -- each is good looking and well spoken with charisma and talent to spare -- the latter proved his greatness by beating a succession of Hall of Famers.
Leonard notched victories over all-time greats Thomas Hearns, Roberto Duran and Marvelous Marvin Hagler.
The 23-year-old Mayweather, who won his title in 1998 from past-his-prime veteran Genaro Hernandez, has yet to tackle that kind of opponent, until tonight.
Corrales is the caliber of foe that could help launch Mayweather's career into Leonard-like greatness.
"Floyd has a lot of things we saw in Ray," Top Rank promoter Bob Arum said. "There's a charisma with him. Leonard had it. (Oscar) De La Hoya has it. (Mike) Tyson, he has it too, but in a different kind of way.
"But Floyd has that ability to light up a room and attract attention. And now he has the opportunity to fight an opponent who will challenge him and bring out the best in him."
Mayweather wowed the gathering at the Hollywood Theater for Friday's weigh-in with his chiseled physique. He appeared in superb condition after weighing in at the division limit of 130 pounds.
He was relaxed and confident, as he has been throughout the promotion for the biggest fight of his life.
"I'm the best and now I have the opportunity to prove that," said Mayweather, 24-0 with 18 knockouts. "Corrales is a good fighter. I won't take that away from him. But when you talk about Floyd Mayweather, well, that's a totally different class."
Mayweather has bristled at the idea that the fight pits the boxer -- Mayweather -- vs. a puncher -- Corrales. Mayweather's trainer, Roger Mayweather, said his nephew punches just as hard as Corrales, who is widely considered one of boxing's most powerful hitters.
Given Roger Mayweather -- a punching machine during his days as a two-time champion in the ring -- has spoken of the need to make his nephew more active offensively, it would seem Mayweather is preparing to slug it out against Corrales.
But when asked about strategy, Mayweather only offered a broad grin.
"I know what I'm going to do, but do you think I'm going to tell you? You'll put it in the paper, and you know Corrales will read about it," Mayweather said before a recent workout. "They're Internet junkies. They just seem to sit there and read what people are saying on the Internet.
"But Floyd Mayweather isn't worrying about that stuff. While they're reading what's in the papers and getting mad, I've been out working. Believe me, I'm in the best shape of my life. You're going to come to me after this fight and say, `Floyd, no doubt about it, you're the best.' This is going to be my night."Comment

It was talked about with Morales but he would have smoked Terrible out of his boots. I love Erik but it would have gotten ugly. Besides Erik was still some pounds south of Floyd.Comment

Corrales earned $1.4 million, Mayweather: $1.7 million.
It is amazing when you think about how much money FMJ has made.
Antonio Margarito STILL hasn't fought for 1.7 mil.Comment
