but tell me. how is kelly pavlik going to knock out a guy who was never stopped in 80 pro fights, ranging from middleweight to heavyweight? a guy who's only been hurt by two opponents in his career, one a southpaw, and the other a mammoth heavyweight?

is kelly going to use the same type of "help" than got brittley banned from the olympics?

maybe they can drug toney like brewster's people supposedly did to waldo.

Half of an unfocused Toney still schools Pavlik. Toney is an A level fighter with A level skills. No to mention he had serious power at 160/168.

You must add his stellar defense also. It will be hard for Pavlik to hit Toney with a flush shot.

in his title fights @ 160 (including ibc belts), toney:

            -won a sd over sosa
-rallied from being outboxed to stop nunn
-won a sd over johnson after being hurt and dropped early on
-fought a close draw with mike mccallum
-got a gift over dave tiberi
-won 9-10 rounds over glenn wolife
-won a controversial decision over mccallum in the rematch and did not look good in doing so.

Toney hardly "schools or dominates" world class guys @ 160. he fought to the level of his opposition.

i'll take a wild guess and say the corner stops it after 6 rounds of punishment.

Toney thrived & beat the **** out of fighters that tried to pressure him. He preferred not to be the aggressor so it would give him chances to counter punch. Pavlik & his leaky defense wouldn't be able to eat counters from JT for 12 rounds. With Nunn that was his first high profile fight & came on strong the second half. McCallum wouldn't been a problem for any fighter even at that stage of his career because of his style. Reggie Johnson was a VERY good fighter. He even gave Tarver a very tough fight & lost a SD in his late 30's.

                  now we're talking.

                  good analysis of styles.

still, i would say that pavlik would not be dominated, simply b/c toney @ 160 was still relatively green and improving, weight-drained, and fought to the level of opposition.

at 168, toney was less drained and more dominant. none of his opponents from the barkley fight to the jones fights were competitive with him or gave him problems, unless it was with their head crashing over james's eye.

Thanks. I can agree with you there. At 168 is where he really established himself. But the Nunn win put him on the map & in the "P4P" rankings.
