    Tarver fought hopkins, jones,
    Hopkins fought taylor, wright, jones

Everybody was fighting everybody else over the past ten years. But Calzaghe has been in that weight class, and couldn't make a single fight - NOT ONE - happen with those guys.

You are acting like these fight could ONLY have hapened in the past couple of years. CALZAGHE IS 35 YEARS OLD.

All of those guys -TONEY INCLUDED. were within a few pounds of where Joe was camped. Are you saying that a late 90s fight between Toney and Joe couldn't happen? Why not? It would have derailed his Sheika or Veit bouts?

    Your excuses are comical, son.
    Calza > Hopkins, Toney, Tarver.

I don't want to argue the reasons for missed matches, but tell me if you HONESTLY watch these fighters and think Hopkins or tarver are better boxers than Calzaghe.

    Jones is a different story.

You way overate Taylor? He closely decisioned a very old Hopkins twice, managed a draw against an ageing Wright and pulled a SD over a blown up Welterweight in Spinks. If he was that good surely he would have dominated these fighters?
Don't get carried away with Pavlik, after all Taylor was probably winning the fight and Pavlik had to get off the floor to win, hes a puncher so......he's not even in Calzaghe's league yet, surely you see that?
I don't think there's any shame in going 36 even/better rounds with two P4P mainstays.

Having Pavlik and Hatton ahead of Calzaghe is incomprehensible to me. Do these people actually watch the fights or just read the headlines?

Those other guys I mentioned that Joe fought came off losses when he fought them. They werent' on any kind of a winning streak just like Sakio Bika.

Sheika was on a very good run and Joppy WAS NOT a champion when he fought Hopkins. Hopkins was the unified champ when they fought so what belt did Joppy have?

Did you read the part of my post that said Jones was willing to go to Wales to face Calzaghe or did you conviniently ignore it?

He won the vacant WBA belt against Eastman and defended it one more time before he fought Hopkins.

                But the thing is this:

Those decisions are made in the ring, and not on the boxing boards.

Did anyone expect Tarver to trouble (an aging) Jones the way he did? Did you expect Jones to DOMINATE Toney? Or Hopkins to dominate Tarver?

Calzaghe may be better. Who knows? But there was a de-facto round-robin among the best fighters in those weight classes, and calzaghe was excluded from that. But BPP wants to "ivory tower" Calzaghe's way to greatness. That's bull****.

What was the fallout when Floyd took the "I'm better than Margarito so I don't have to fight him" approach?

You cant really count that. Hopkins was the WBA champion. Thats when the WBA started that "regular" and "super" champion bull****. Joppy winning the "regular" title is nothing more than a way to get more sanctioning money.

Consensus is no more than hear say or opinion, it doesn't means its correct.

Anyway the original point was not about how old Hopkins was, it was I believe about the greatness of Taylor.

Shame doesn't even come into it. They were good wins but the manner of those wins say more about the credibility of Taylor than the W on the record.

He sc****d both wins, some might say he lost one of the fights.

He is in his prime, Hopkins although still very good is not. That's the bottom line. The first time Taylor met a fighter the same size and in his prime he lost.
