mike tyson is a living legend. people still care about him today because he was a man who gave the fans the knockouts they love to see. he was very exciting. the problem with boxing now is we dont have anyone who can bring the knockouts like tyson.

I agree with the general sentiment here. Tyson shamed himself but not the sport of boxing.
I was born in '77 and Tyson was getting big when I was young. Without him I probably wouldn't be into boxing as much if at all today. My interest in him, especially what he did to Holmes and Spinks, is what got me into the boxing. He was not just a devastating force in the ring, but was a cultural phenom. Anyone else remember DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince's (Will Smith) I Think I Can Beat Mike Tyson? (URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1t9SCHLRDoY ) And, really, his loss to Buster Douglas only got me into boxing more. Before that I was only about him, but after that I started hearing about (obviously) Evander Holyfield (who beat Douglas for the belts), Rid**** Bowe and Lennox Lewis. And my interest in other boxers and boxing in general just grew from then on...
Obviously Tyson has had a lot of problems inside and outside of the ring, but I think most people, both fans and non-fans of the sport, know that those are personal problems of his, and not something endemic to boxing.Comment

Boxing survived after Ali cos it had a Tyson. Sadly there is no HW around that can capture audiences like him at the moment therefore boxing starts to die. Boxing without Mike Tyson? Boy o boy.Comment

People really need to stop taking the actions of people and applying it to everybody associated with said sport. A lot **** they are doing in the NBA and NFL is some bull**** plain and simple. These sports figures do not represent anybody but themselves. When a professional athlete does something wrong I don't look at the whole league like yall ****ed up because they didn't **** up as a whole a individual person ****ed up. Be that as it may you are kidding yourself on if you think Mike Tyson's behaviour did not impact negatively on the sport. Boxing faces an uphill struggle to start with when it comes to enticing people to judge it as something more than mindless brutality and when idiots like Tyson get themselves involved with **** cases and then go on to bite an opponent's ear on during a fight it does absolutely nothing for him or for boxing as a whole.Originally posted by tredh View PostComment
