    Anyone remember back to 2002-2003?

What made Jones Jr. pass Hopkins in the P4P lists at that point?

Was it the win over John Ruiz?

A bit of hype, the fact that Hopkins wasn't liked by the media as much, Jones had the heavyweight title thing with Ruiz, and then in head to head, he DID beat Hopkins. So, that was it, for the most part.

I mean, he was basically doing the same thing at 175 that Hopkins was doing at 160... beating a lot of sub standard competition and racking up the defenses. Right?

What's the difference that makes Jones hype and Hopkins not?

Hopkins was inactive for a while in 2002, and in 2003, after being told that if he would fight another middleweight contender, then he would probably be #1P4P. Instead, he fought ridiculously overmatched Morrade Hakkar.

He fought William Joppy later in the year, but by then Roy had already beaten John Ruiz.

So to answer your question, he fought just about the least impressive title challenger I've ever seen, and Roy stepped up to HW and won the WBA belt.

Hopkins fought smaller men like Oscar and Tito to get the #1 then Roy jumped a weight class and beat a title holder to take the #1 spot back.

Roy was always ahead of Hopkins. He beat Hopkins in 1993, idiots. How the hell is Hopkins going to be ahead of him?

Only The Ring had Hopkins ahead of Roy.

That doesn't mean he'd beat him on everyday that's why we have rematches.
The USA Today had Hop above Roy lots of boxing mags and news mags had Hopkins over Roy at the time.

What??? I thought Jones was always ahead of Hopkins up until he lost to Tarver.

but if it was anything that did it, it was probebly his move to heavyweight or his destruction of Clinton Woods, whatever years that was in.
