Taxes, when a crooked administration is not in office dumping all of the money into a useless war being used to get their buddies rich, are wonderful. Countries with higher rates of taxes that provide for their citizens in the social sense have lower rates of depression and their people, generally, have a better outlook on life, are less violent, and less crime ridden. Just a few points, to get my two cents in...

Who says taxes are good? Well, how about archconservative economic guru Alan Greenspan, who suggested ending the tax cuts years ago. Taxation is necessary not just for a stable economy and the existence of government, but for a first world society: For quality roads, bridges, police, schools (just to name few things), and yes, even for caring for the poor, sick and old.

The alternatives to taxes are a third world society or heavy borrowing (like we are doing from China now) which just means even higher taxes in the future.

There is a far cry from socialism to democracy. America's forefathers did not decry taxation, simply taxation without representation.

Perhaps that is why you would get into politics, shawn, but not everyone.

Of course no one is happy on April 15, but what about during the rest of they year when roads are repaired, healthcare is provided for the less fortunate, rivers, oceans, and streams are cleaned up, elderly folks are provided for, schools are able to get new books. Seriously, look at studies from countries that have much higher tax rates than us (England, France, Italy, Germany, Bhutan, etc.). People there are much happier than people in the US. These social programs that you hate so much got us out of the depression of the 1930's.

And please dont resort to telling me to "get out of the country, then," because this is my home and im working to change it into a place to be proud of. Bush has ruined this place beyond what it was already.

Oh, china, you mean our best friend? i cant stand china. You know, they own most of our government, right. They have more bonds than any other entity? Our companies use their slave labor and pollute their country to get around labor and environmental laws here.

I'm talking about the European countries, countries that looked at what the USA has done well, then looked at what Russia and other socialist countries did well, and created a hybrid.
