Merging From A Duplicate Thread

FIRST, let me preface by saying that I like Kelly Pavlik. He seems like a good kid. Likeable guy. Hard worker. Good story.

Although I had picked Jermain Taylor to edge him in a decision, I WANTED Kelly to win, and that has been documented in the NSB "heart vs head" thread.

That being said..... The posters on this site are a bunch of hypocrites.


For months, I have seen variants of this concept posted repeatedly: "A champion is supposed to fight the best". "A champion is supposed to try to clean up the division". "A champion is supposed to unify the belts". OK, fine.

Now, Kelly Pavlik is deservedly a champion. Great. He announces his next fight. Who is he fighting? John Duddy.

John Duddy is not ranked in the top ten of Ring Magazine. He is not ranked in the top ten of WBC. Or the IBF. He has a gift ranking of #2 by the WBO.

So, how exactly is this the best competition available? How is Duddy a better opponent than Winky Wright, Arthur Abraham, Felix Sturm, Joe Calzaghe, Mikkel Kessler, Javier Castillejo, or any of the top 154ers who would like a shot at the MW title?

Who has John Duddy fought or beat to earn a shot at the linear MW title?

I wonder what characteristics that Duddy has that makes him a worthy title contender. Please explain.
