I am favoring Hatton to win, but it's going to be a close contest. Mayweatherites don't mind if you pick Hatton to win, but it drives them insane when you justify your opinion with reasons. I did that and have been called an *******, a f a g, dumb, ******, young, ignorant on boxing, etc....
Being called names doesn't bother me...it's laughable to be honest, because it just betrays the maturity level of some of the Floyd fanboys. But, what irritates is when some of the normally reasonable and knowledgable Mayweatherites either ignore blatant facts, or engage in historical revisionism.
Let's look at the three objective criticisms regarding Floyd:
1. Cherrypicking opponents. After Floyd left 130, this point is all too obvious. You have to be biased to argue against it. Why not just admit it and go on? Instead, I've read posts falsely arguing that Mitchell, Corley, and N'dou represented boxing's best, and posts even going so far as to assert that Kostya Tszyu actually ran from Floyd!
2. Runs from opponents in the ring. A debatable issue. Floyd is a defensive master and his game is primarily designed to win fights without getting hit. To boxing afficionados, this is a great example of the fine art of boxing. To people who like to watch action packed fights, it's boring, and to others it's just plain chicken****. Had he truly fought the best, I would be perfectly willing to give Floyd a pass on this one. But, he hasn't, so I remain skeptical.
3. Overhypes his importance to boxing. Floyd claims to be the greatest of, not just his generation, but of all time as well! Many of his fans take this to heart. In reality, the jury's still out on both issues. So, it is probably true that Floyd is overhyped at least up to now.
These are my main points of criticism, but the most concerning is issue number 1. In Hatton, there is a reasonable probability that Floyd has finally picked the wrong cherry. That's why this fight is important to boxing. IF Floyd knocks Hatton out, I will quickly revise all I've said here. IF Floyd wins by another chicken run decision, nothing is resolved. Of course, if Hatton wins by any means, the Floyd legacy will be popped like a birthday balloon and leave alot of red faces among his faithful.
