Find a middleweight that doesn't gain any weight on fight night, and then Cotto facing them would be legit.

It is different because no matter who gains enough weight to jump up a couple of weight classes, the people two weight classes up will be gaining weight on fight night too.

I have rarely seen a fighter not gain any weight on fight night, and I have only seen one lose weight on fight night. (Mayweather vs. DLH)

Once again you miss the point entirely Pump. Take the needle out of your ass and get what we're discussing straight.

Pacquiao vs. Mayweather. Pac at 5'6.5" and 144lbs and Mayweather at 5'8" and 147lbs. It's okay to admit you're afraid, hell if Pacquiao loses you will be out of a job. Seeing as it's your job to track his every movement and write about it in vivid detail. You have a personal stake in Pac's best intrest, so that disqualifies you as a legit voice of opinion.

On the contrary, it seems to have dropped off a bit.

Where the hell have you been in the past couple of weeks, I haven't seen you around much.
Working my ass off, been busy at the shop. I've got some downtime so I figured what better way to kill it than piss off an entire nation.

Mayweather is ranked higher on pure merit at this point, like Jones was in the last decade. Five titles in five weight classes and undefeated is enough to have him at 1.

But, if Pacquiao actually decides to clean house by fighting guys like Marquez, Guzman or Soto and then move up 135, I think he should be ranked higher. Unless Mayweather starts to take risks like the Mosley-Cotto winner or a Paul Williams, Cintron. Mayweather's options, as far as making the most for the least risk, will run out after beating Hatton.

Cotto has been coming in at near 160 since he was at 140. In a year I dont think he will be able to make 147 and he's too small for 154.

Whatever move Pacquiao makes Mayweather will seek to nullify the momentum. You think Floyd will stand idly by and let Pacquiao do something like that? Let's say Pac could make it past Marquez, Guzman, and Diaz without being defeated (which is damn near impossible).

You think if Floyd saw tat he wouldn't fight the winner of Cotto-Mosley?

The rest I agree with... but I have a feeling that if he beats Cintron, people will talk about Cintron being overrated.

Revisionism is getting to be a damn frequent trend.

Serious truth right there. Cintron is a dangerous guy for anyone to face with that right hand of his, and with the height and reach diffeence, coupled with Emmanuel Steward in Kermit's corner it would be damn hard to dismiss a victory over Cintron.

But again, revisionist historian is the job of choice for most posters around here.

Cintron needs to beat Margarito first for the fight to be marketable or else people will just say that he beat a guy Margarito destroyed in five rounds.

I agree... I actually am just worried in general about Mayweather not getting respect for fighting any of the elite welters right now... other than Cotto, assuming he beats Mosley.

The excuses I envision coming up:

Hatton - Small (coming up from 140)
                      Mosley - Old
                      Cintron - One-dimensional
                      Margarito - B level fighter
                      Williams - Unproven

                      Get my drift?
