I think the weigh in is good as is...its for the protection and health of the boxers.....you all know they make weights by eliminating all liquid from their bodies.....if they did this on fight day...what kind of fight would we have....i like it as is....call me crazy

One class for people below 140 lbs is enough. How many men weight that anyway?

A lot of casual fans complain about having to watch tiny men fight on "big" cards, and understandably so.

People today are much bigger than in 1870
Well, in wrestling, we have a "super-heavyweight" class.
So, maybe you do that to separate the Briggs/McClines/Klitschkos from the Tysons and Byrds.

Hell of a post DD. I concur fully weigh ins are absolutely a farce. Paul Williams and Margarito could have had their bout at Middleweight, I say less weight divisiions will be more healthy for the fighters themselves but it would hurt the pockets of the sanctioning bodies. Who gives a crap about them anyway.

But that is the thing. Guys would not do it on fight day because they would be completely depleted for the fight.

For example, we weighed in "day of". the guys at 108/115 would have about an hour before their fight started. Us heavier guys would have 2-3 hours.

So, some guys might cheat down one weight class. But not two. 15 pounds is TWO GALLONS of water.

Nobody would drink two gallons of water right before a boxing match.

Not unless they institute an 8th round, 'who can piss the highest' contest.

And it's not muscle built overnight. rehydrating to a certain weight is different from one who's at that fighting weight since the start.

You bring up Tony Margarito. He weighed in for a fight at 157 EIGHT YEARS ago. And he has had several fights at 154. Howinthehell is he still a WW?

Yes. I know it's not muscle. That is why I said Two gallons of water.

You can't comfortably rehydrate that much in the few hours prior to a fight. So guys would be forced to move to their ACTUAL divisions.

Joey Gamache was seriously hurt because Gatti (a strong puncher) was a MUCH bigger man.

It is my feeling that if you weigh damn near 160, you shouldn't be fighting at JWW. Just move to full welter.

Or, guys would just do like "Six Heads" and end the fight because they have to use the bathroom.

To be fair... the Gatti weigh in was a joke. He was overweight when they weighed him as well but he hopped off the scales. That whole thing was a ****ing farce of a boxing match.
