Floyd Mayweather had came into most of his fights @ or around the weight limit.. If Mayweather could fight welters @ 147, why shouldn't Pac be able to? He's right up there in pound for pound and all...

A.) This was a joke thread. I do want to see Pacquiao move up in weight but Welterweight would be suicide. I just made this thread because I keep seeing Pac fans saying Pacquiao can't carry that kind of weight, or that Pacquiao could murder Mayweather. So I veiled some sarcasm and made this thread.

B.) Pacquiao is still fighting below where he should be, and I think lightweight or light Welter would be a better fit for him.

C.) Contrary to popular belief I like Manny Pacquiao a lot, it's hard to hate a guy as good for the sport as he is. His rabid fans on the other hand I never seem to agree with because I prefer common sense to blind love/hate.

D.) The only real fights for Pacquiao in his current division lie in Juan Manuel Marquez and Michael Katsidis. I believe Pacquiao would detonate Juan Diaz by 10, Joan Guzman and Humberto Soto haven't even earned the right to fight Pacquiao. So in my eyes if he fights either one of them, he's ducking any legit threat.

Guzman is still unproven and hasn't had any sort of career defining win, regardless of what his promoters (posters on boxingscene) would lead you to believe. And Soto is a solid fighter who's best days are behind him, and even though his record is admirable his name is not known unles you are an avid fan of "Friday Night Fights" like myself or others here.

E.) Juan Manuel Marquez is interested in fighting Pacquiao again, the price just needs to be worked out. I agree that Marquez is a better technically sound fighter with more skill than Pacquiao in regards to sheer boxing ability. I don't agree that a rematch "couldn't sell ****" because Marquez "can't sell ****". Anybody who watches this sport seriously knows Marquez is a top 10 p4p fighter, and all of Pacquiao's fans know who Marquez is. He's the guy that gave Pacquiao the fight of his life and dominate dhim for 9 straight rounds. So don't tell me the fight would not sell.

F.) As for Joel Casamayor, he deserved a shot a Pacquiao years ago. His prime is too far gone to beat Pacquiao now. Don't get me wrong though, don't underestimate Joel. If the fight were to happen I think he'd give Pacquiao all he could handle in the early rounds until he gassed out later on and got TKO'd.
why did you have to kill it?

Katsidis is not in Pacquiao's weight class.

Mayweather beats welters because his style allows him...but Pac's style would still be good vs a little guy like Floyd. Pac cannot brawl with guys who naturally weigh 160 lbs. Am I saying Pac wins? No. but his style can give him trouble. It'd be worth it to find out. Just like when Roy came down from 200 to 175 and got beat, although that was pretty extreme.

Diaz is a tank and is a challenge for anyone. He is used to guys coming down from 150 to make 135 and fight him. He is used to hard fights. Pacquiao would have a rough day vs him. It gets harder and harder as you move up in weight to continue brawling with guys. No one can call Pac out for ducking anybody if he takes on either Diaz or Guzman instead of Marquez right away.

Bringer, Kelly Pavlik only had one significant win before the Taylor fight, If champs didn't fight up and comers there would be no new champions and you would have the same old farts fighting each other. Guzman beat Barrios.. easily, he is looking to have his first big fight and I feel he deserves it. Quit hating Bringer.. Your telling me that you would rather see Pac fight old men in Barrera then to face Sotto or Guzman. You didn't seem to mind when Kelly Pavlik fought Taylor, yet you have a double standard for Guzman and Sotto..

Sorry bro, I have a reputation to uphold as a nonbiased kinda guy. It certainly was funny as **** though waking up to read all this **** from people who took me seriously.

But on a side note, it wouldn't be impossible for Manny to make Welterweight. There are smaller Welters who come in below 150lbs for their fight, like Floyd as previously mentioned. And Pac is not that small, he's 5'7", only Williams would dwarf him.

            Cotto is 5'7"
            Mayweather is 5'8"
            Clottey is 5'8"
            Hatton is 5'6"
            Mosley is 5'9"

The only ones he'd really need to avoid would be Kermit Cintron at 5'11" and Paul Williams at 6'1".

You raise a good point about Pavlik. One that touches the issue directly since I was so supportive of Pavlik in claiming he would KO Taylor. If Guzman gets past Soto it would certainly garner him more attention and then maybe a fight against Pac would fit. Personally I think Michael Katsidis has earned it more than Guzman at this point, yet none of Pac's fans are even addressing Katsidis. A man who I think would take Pacquiao to hell and back for 12 rounds in a fight that would probably go down in history as one of the best.

I just want Katsidis to get the shot before Guzman.

I post this question because I keep reading Pacquiao fans saying Pac would annihilate Mayweather, if so, why not move up?

The only real fights left in his division is a Marquez rematch, and a war with Katsidis. Guzman is an overrated hype job who will get KTFO when he steps up in competition like Rey Bautista did, and he hasn't even earned a shot at Manny.

So why not just move up? The competition is there, the fights are there, and if he wants to be considered an all time great, his legacy requires it.
                  Ohhhhh

                  HELL NO!

                  *Z snap* No you didn't

More like underated and I ain't gonna defend Guzman cuz he F'd up his chance. The man has skillz

                  Complete fighter

Defense on the inside, outside and against the ropes. He can brawl, box and doesn't get tired.

The Bringer, just to let you know Guzman fell into the category of fighters I like to watch so I ain't just defending him cuz he Dominican.

Yeah, back then I thought he was. Believe me, times have changed. I'm a convert into the "Church of Joan and the Modern Day Guzmans". Dude is amazingly gifted and I doubt Pac will ever fight him.

I totally converted on him after the Soto fight I think it was, not sure.

Bringer, your still cool. We all have out opinions. But I got a little offended because even before the Nate fight came threw...Guzman wasn't getting any respect.
