Would Pavlik Be Just An Average Guy A Few Years Ago?

I probally shouldnt have said average because he is definatly better then that but how would he have been if he came along a few years ago? He is a big physical MW that keeps coming but there were some tough guys there a few years ago.

I think he gets crushed by a prime Hopkins and I also think guys like Joppy, Echols, Holmes, and probally a "prime" Tito would give him hell. Tito probally cant handle him now but a Pavlik would probally be made for a prime Tito. I didnt want to go back further then that but you could even throw in guys like RJ & Toney if you wanted to. The problem is that there are some solid MW's but there are no more huge one's like the guys I named and Brewer & so on.

Now, some of those guys definatly arent elite but they were big physical MW's that could give a ton of guys hell, e****ally if they were fighting in this era. I mean, Im definatly not sold on Taylor being able to hang with a prime Echols. Its kind of like a guy like Margarito isnt that special but because he is so huge & powerful he is a threat to anyone in the division, e****ally if it was a weak division.

I do think that anyone who thinks he could even hang with a prime Hopkins is crazy. He may be big & powerful but if you think that then you must have forgot what a prime X looked like. No one was more physical then that cat and he had the speed to go with it. I think it would be a old skool MW fight where X would just maul him to death. Even with all his KO's he's not hurting X at all.

Still though, I really like Pavlik and I hope he doesnt screw his career up by moving up. He should stay at MW and just try to dominate that for a while. I would hate to see him lose or get killed just because he moved up. Now he probally should fight Taylor again at 168 but after that he should move right back down and stay there. Someone like Calzaghe would be a horrible move for him. Joe is too quick and the Southpaw style would give Pavlik hell. Also, Calzaghe has the most underrated strength in boxing. Ive seen him manhandle a ton of big guys and most of all, Pavlik's power wont be nearly as effective against the top SMW's.

Tito could take a punch. Joppy has a good chin, but he'd be hit too much ala the Trinidad fight. Trinidad would probably be too small in the long run, and his left hook is a good punch at 160, not a great one like at 147-154. It'd be fun just to see how it went down though. A lock for a FOTY canidate. The division is better than it was a few years ago anyways...

If you want to talk about guys who give Pavlik trouble then we need to go back to the late 80's early 90's. Nunn, McCallum, Toney, Roy guys like that. Other than Hopkins that era was relatively weak.

Another bull**** post from an idiotic guy.

This is the same moron who created the thread saying that the Taylor-Pavlik fight was overrated.

Dude, if you're asking overrated, go look at Fake Floyd running like a chicken from a vastly outclassed Baldomir.

Dude if you're looking for mediocre, take a look at Fake Floyd's resume of beating Gatti's, Judah's, Baldo's and old DLH's.

Pavlik just KOd the middleweight champion of the world.

Pavlik could also beat Wright in my opinion, although I'd love to see the fight go down. Pavlik would have been pretty good even 10 years ago in my opinion, but he would not dominate.

I think Pavlik would've lost a UD to Hopkins three or four years back. Hell, I still think he loses a decision to a 42 year old Hopkins today. Hopkins is too elusive for a fighter like Pavlik. You go to hit him and, ooops, he's no longer there.

I don't think Pavlik could beat the winner of Calzaghe - Kessler, either. If he moves up to SMW, he'll get his first L by decision. Both these fighters are excellent boxers and can pack a punch. Anyone else at 168 is toast.

he wouldnt have been crushed by hopkins, i mean, he woulda lost to a prime hopkins probably but he would never have been hurt and i wouldnt coutn him completely out. maybe a 2.5-1 underdog... maybe even 3 at worst
