Rooting for a fighter based on skin color is racist

It's not bad to value who you are. That's not even close to what im saying. what im saying is, supporting a guy simplye because he is white (a lot of people will say "i support him because he has heart and a big right hand, etc., but they only come up with that stuff after they have decided to lend their support to his shade) and the other guy is black is wrong.

national support is a different story, and honestly, not one i am too familiar with because im a pure bred american bastard of 6 different varied backgrounds who is not patriotic at all. that being said, supporting a countrymen is not racism, it's patriotism, but saying "I only support mexicans/ PR's/ white Americans/ black americans/ fillipino's" is racism"

when something disrespectful is said toward a certain kind of people being for
who you are does mean you are against everybody else if the people who rooted for pavlic started making racial slurs against taylor then I would
see it as racist. People are so paranoid when it comes to race that the

I've really noticed among my friends and a lot of people on this board that they root for people based on skin color. why is that? i appreciate black fighters (taylor, mosley, clottey), white fighters (pavlik, hatton, wlad), asian fighters, latin/ hispanic fighters. all my friends wanted to root for pavlik because he was white, and i just didnt get that. i was rooting for taylor (more for manny than for taylor, but i do really like taylor), but wasnt upset that pavlik won. it was a great fight for so many reasons (not PPV, both fighters hit the canvas, big punches).

race is still an issue because we allow it to be. ****, in the latin/ hispanic culture racism is based upon country of origin. With everyone oppressing each other the man doesnt have to get his hands dirty.

Most people root for the fighter they relate to the most so don't even bring that race **** in here. It's pointless.

What's the value of that difference? I say it's next to nothing. I.e., if racism is wrong so is patriotism.

I mean so a certain person identify's with a certain race of a fighter more then a fighter that isnt the same race. So ****in what? It's not like because of that, racial slur's are gonna be tossed around. You just chose to root for that guy, because thats your brethren.

Racism isnt based upon slurs. slurs can be racist, though, but racisim is an ideology that says "i like/value/dont like/ despise this person more than this person because his skin color is this". and as far as the brethren stuff goes, you would be more correct to root based upon blood type, because that actually has an effect on DNA, where as skin color does not.

Deniying me a right to root for whoever I want for whatever reason I choose is a denial of my basic natural rights.

In other words, you can root for whoever you like for whatever reason you want BUT in order to have some sort of respect you also have to be classy to the opponent of your fighter and the fans of the opponent(which is rare on these boards). You also have to be objective towards your fighter.


But if someone ever told me that I can't root for a fighter X due to his skin color matching mine and assumed that I am rooting for that fighter only due to that reason I would tell him to **** off.

first of, why am i an idiot? i made an observation and you resort to calling me names.

it goes all ways, not just white people liking white people. liking kelly for being a great fighter is fine, it just seems people want to put WHITE on his resume, like it's a positive or negative. his color has nothing to do with how he fights, but everyone seemed excited about a "white" champion.
