Thats true. I'm black but one of my favorite fighters klitscho. i just dont look at a fighters skin color. i look at what they bring to the table and go from there. in the lacy vs. calzaghe fight i was rooting for lacy, not because he was black but because i was more familiar with him. i didnt even know who calzaghe was until that fight. when joe won i didnt get pissed. i was actually impressed with his performance and have favored calzaghe ever since. it just bothers me that racism is still such a big problem in this day and age. i mean come on its time for people to put that type of ignorance to rest.
Rooting for a fighter based on skin color is racist

Well there's nothing personal about it.it's racist because you are basing your decision/ favor on color (i say color because race isnt even a real thing). i believe that would be pretty close to the definition of racism. a fighter should be admired for his skills in the ring, not a completely arbitrary thing like skin color. it's not like anyone worked their ass off to be white or black, they were only born that way. it's neither a pro or a con, it just is.
Let's say if you're watching boxing with your friend and he's like, "Who do you want to win." and you say "The black guy."
It's not that you hate the hispanic guy he's fighting, but you just want to see the guy who's the same race as you win.
It's basically just liking to see the people of your race advance.Comment

i think pride in cultural background is healthy.I think the having pride in your race or cultural backround is healthy, but where people go wrong, is hating someone from another. Or thinking that yours is superior in anyway. I have a Whelsh backround so I've got a special spot for Joe C. but that doesnt stop me from enjoying the sport of boxing and one of the greatest things about boxing is the many cultures of the world that it brings together. And then watching them beat the **** out of each other
pride in color is another thing, and is very often a bad thing. (the black pride movement was something else. that was more about making a statement that being black is not something to be ashamed of than it was about saying black skin color is better than others. black america had been shown through their exclusion from american society in media and other forms that they should be embarrassed for being black, and they were saying F-that, not being racist)Comment

Same with the Olympics, but each athlete goes out there representing their country, do they not?
Well. When a fighter goes out there and fights. Like it or not, he's representing his hometown, his team, and his race.Comment

It does suck that people root for fighters by the color of their skin and not by the content of their character - or how they preceive themselves. But just know that even though the majority of people out there do that, you dont have to be that way.Comment
