It was actually Taylor's looping left left hook that I thought was his his most effective punch. Pavlik would close in on the attack and he'd be blind to it and get hit. When they were squared off against each other in the center of the ring Pavlik's jab was the more effective and he was generally getting the better, doing the more damage with his agression, harder punches, straighter punches working off the jab.

I think that's how Taylor initially got him in troulbe in the second round.

If a guy is hurt and he makes it out of a round, why isn't he given credit for surviving? The blame automatically goes to the fighter that didn't finish him.

I thought the hook he landed was a good solid formed one. It was when Pavlik was swinging. And Jermaine's came under Pavlik's and caught him flush attemt. Not sure gonna have to rewatch it.

For Taylor not to finish his man when he had him like that in the second round is pathetic, i could understand if he had him hurt in the 10th and couldn't finish him because of fatigue, but it was the second round!. pavlik was almost out on his feet and there was a minute left, he wasnt ducking punches at all and was just holding on. the worst part was taylor was holding him back. Taylor is better than pavlik and most fighters but for some reason he doesnt have the same stamina.

Personally I say if he used a damn uppercut instead of those wide blows there would be hundreds of threads about Taylor being the truth becaus he ko'd Pavlik in 2 rounds.

I don't think many other fighters in the middleweight division are capable of that type of blitz that Taylor let loose and still couldn't finish Pavlik off with. Opponents are gonna see this and they are going to get discouraged. They're gonna think "damn, a young athletic guy like Taylor let it all hang out and couldn't finish this mofo off, that is not kool". Taylor came in from the onset and his objective was clearly stated that he was looking for a fight, but his best was not enough to get the job done. Only way Pavlik loses in my opinion any time soon is if he gets out-boxed.

I totally disagree with that second part. Trust me noone sees discouragement when they see a guy get knocked down;. It shows weakness that anyone that ever fights Kelly will try to expose. I put money on it his power bails him out of almost any bad situation, forget a mule that guy hits like a truck.

You're not knocking Hopkins or Winky out...period...Ouma, I will say that fight probably should not have lasted with the way Taylor was landing...vs Spinks, Taylor doesn't have Judah speed as a MW (though he is fast as a MW) and Spinks was there to duck, slip, move and box vs a guy who is technically flawed...

My only point is that it isn't easy for a young and technically flawed fighter like Taylor to look spectacular in his previous 5 fights considering the opposition
oh im not holding it against Taylor, but its true that he is an inexperienced finisher. Whereas Pavlik has to finish his man off nearly every fight

Your logic is flawed because IT WAS THE SECOND ROUND. Kelly wasn't tired and he had plenty of energy to recover quickly. Trust me it is much more difficult to get up from that shot in the 10th, when you are fatigued, than in the second when you can recover quickly and get your legs back.

I dont think Pavlik was that hurt, but his chin is a little suspect.

Taylor did not follow up his jab with his right hand. He should have thrown that right more often. Pavlik did throw that right, a good one-two and it produced great results.

I also did not understand why taylor did not finish pavlik. i mean he had him on rubbery legs and refused to jump on him. looked like he got real tired but id thought he was in top shape. i think that taylor was too hyper at the beginning of the fight and thats what hurt him later on. that and not blocking pavliks right hand enough. hopefully taylor will learn from his mistakes and do better in the rematch.
