I watched it a few times and I'm certain that's what happened.
Well , I can't say it in every thread and I still see people criticizing Pavlik for what looks like (at a glance) taunting. When I saw the fight live, I thought he was taunting too. You have to go back and watch the replays.

He was clearly complaining about a hard elbow that Taylor almost connected with. It almost surely would have busted Kelly's face open if it did connect. It was still a ****** thing to do considering Taylor was in mid-combo. Maybe the fact that Kelly was already half dazed had something to do with it.

Still, let's put it to rest once and for all. Pavlik was'nt taunting. He was asking taylor "what's up with that elbow?" or something to that effect.

That's clearly not the point, the point was, regardless of why he did it that he shouldn't have, he should have been protecting himself and fighting...

          Definitely. I agree.

But people DO have the misconception that he was taunting and showboating. We should be clear on exactly what happened.

I'm kind of surprised nobody at ringside mentioned it. The replay shows how flagrant it was.

Out of character for Taylor too I might add. He really was too jumpy and nervous.

he wasn't really taunting, he was sticking out his tongue, several fighters do something similar - like shaking their head, to show that the punch they just received didn't hurt them, when it fact it did.

I think in this fight you can see why since he won the title Taylor's handlers only wanted him to fight smaller lighter punching guys. Taylor has a lot of athletic ability and is strong but slows down in the later rounds which was clearly the case in this fight. Having Jermain fight only light punching Jr Middleweights and blown up Welterweights made him forget what it was like to get dinged by a real middleweight. This lost may end up being the best thing thast ever happened to Taylor because maybe he'll stop believing all the hype and start putting his nose to the grindstone. The same thing happened to Surar Ray Leonard when he fought Duran and he became a much better fighter after the loss. We'll see what happens to Taylor not that he sees he is not the Middleweight God he thought he was.
