Arum: "Pavlik's Win, The Biggest Blow To UFC"

In a recent interview with BoxingScene.com's Jose Aguirre, promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank said that WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik will lead the way to boxing's revival and his knockout win over Jermain Taylor is the biggest blow that the UFC has suffered to date. [details]

they need to protect pavlik by keeping him at 160, the fact of the matter is he is a good boxer but he gets hit, and wear and tear could lead to a tragically shortened career in the limelight for him. The guy needs to dominate a division for a year until the mainstream media finally catches on to him, then a year more so they can broadcast the good news. By that time it will be ok for him to lose, no sooner.

There are a lot of great white fighters in boxing but they are all mostly from Eastern Europe or the UK and they are not as marketable to the American public. Pavlik is IMO the Greatest White American fighter since the Legendary Rocky Marciano and he is gonna have a huge following now in the U.S.A. Pavlik is also IMO the most exciting fighter in boxing and the best KO artist, that will also help sway viewers away from the UFC and help restore boxing as the Glamour Combat Sport. Bob Arum is partially right.

                Arum does not understand.

There is years…centuries of grappling history that he has to tear down to even scratch at the midwestern public.
