Pavlik Shows Champion's Heart, Stops Taylor
Collapse
-
Just when Taylor decided to give us a fighting style that is more in keeping with his moniker ("bad intentions") and will make us forgive his grabbing a small Uoma as well as other lackluster performances in the past three years, he lost.
Pavlik was hitting Taylor's chin and temple with the right from round 1. One dimensional fighter, that Pavlik may be (jab-straight), but it is exactly that one dimension, it seems, that was needed to decisively beat JTaylor. That, along with a big heart, a strong will and a better than average recuperative capacity.
Taylor is the better skilled fighter, there's no question about that. He even looked better missing those power shots than Pavlik landing his right on Taylor's chin.

pavlik kayoed the chump
Good that Pavlik defeated "the Chump". To my eyes. Taylor was not a great champion. His wins are not impressive and always arguable like with his first fight with Hopkins and the one with Spinks. And it's great that Pavlik knocked him out to avoid being robbed via decision. That's only way to beat Taylor, KO!
Taylor is being groomed as the next "big thing" in boxing by promoters. But he doesn't have the heart and skills to be listed as one of the greats at present. He wouldn't even win against Pacquiao, Morales or Marquez if they were midddleweights. Sure he can beat Barrera. He's boring and not fun to wath. Just an average boxer being hyped up. Too muh overdressed. Pure hype, average substance.
Sure Pavlik will beat him again in the rematch.

Congratulations to Kelly Pavlik for a good fight. I have to say though that if Taylor would have gone to the body, he would have won that fight. Go to the body Jermain, u had the victory right there and Kelly capitalized on ur mistakes. But let's be honest, how does the challenger get a standing 8 count and the champion does not? I have to say the Steve Smoger is in Bob Arum's pocket. He let Pavlik beat the **** out of Miranda and everyone knows he let's the fight go as long as he can. Pavlik hit Miranda with way more punches and battered his brain and Miranda was allowed 2 times. I though it should have been stopped in the 6th, but Steve let fly for another minute or so. But the CHAMPION doesn't get even a standing 8 count?!!!!!?!!! That's **** and everyone out there knows. There's another thing that everyone knows without a doubt: Taylor will kill "The Ghost" in the rematch. Enjoy while it lasts Kelly because it will be over just as quick as it began.

Is it me, or were the scorecards after the fight totally bogus?? I mean, fighters know when they are winning and when they are losing, and afterwards Taylors said he felt like he was losing n' Pavlik said he felt he was winning......thank god for knockouts to decide it all. Judges are pathetic! Had Pavlik down by three or four rounds, no way.Great fight tho!! Oh the possibilities now!!!

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've been saying that!! First off cong**** to kelly pavlik
He showed heart and it was a GREAT fight! I for one believe that if Jermain Taylor took his time, picked better punches, and went to the body he would have got a late round stoppage. He punched himself out! As the champion, I believe he should have atleast got a count, but like a true champion Taylor never disputed the decision. I'm lookin forward to Pavlik - Taylor II. I like Pavlik, but I like Taylor better... he regained a fan after this fight. Looking forward for the return of Bad Intentions.

Big Props...
And cong**** to Pavlik the Ghost.
Coming back from that knock down to knock Taylor out was an impressive feat.
He has the heart of a champ, no doubt.
Taylor's got to go back and do some homework and conserve some energy next time.
Good effort by both, though.

I felt as though Taylor looked sharp, crisp, and strong. He was the better technical boxer, but he didn't do anything to parry or block the jab. He literally blinked when it came in, which eventually gave Pavlik the room to throw a right hand that wobbled him.
As to the standing 8-count whiners: Taylor's arms literally went limp, and he slumped to the ground, eyes completely rolled over. The ref sat there with him for quite some time, and Taylor never even motioned that he was conscious. Furthermore, he didn't dispute the call when asked about it in the locker room. He was out.
During the 2nd round knockdown, Pavlik stood up on his own, walked to a corner angry, and waited for the ref to count him, clearly frustrated that he gave Taylor such an opening. It was the right call, and the right man won.
If they rematch, I expect it to go the distance, with lots of action. We could be witnessing one of the great rivalries of this era.

The result of that fight was very disappointing! Jermain Taylor has to many technical flaws that it's laughable. No defense, wild punching, and poor ring generalship, he's is just a few steps above Mayorga. I know Manny Stewart has to be pissed right now! I just kept thinking to myself; "keep your hands up", "use more head movement", "go to the body". Maybe JT is like Sam Peter, in that what he works on in the gym doesn't really translate well in the ring. Maybe he's technically perfect in the gym, and once he hits the bright lights he just becomes the wild man. I don't really know, all I know is that with his speed and power, if he threw straighter, sharper punches, and had some defense he would be an absolute monster. Reality is though he's not that fighter, he's who he is, and I believe he will never be the "Universally Recognized Champion" again.

Pavlike shouldn't even think about other fighters. This was a good fight and there should be a rematch and possibly a triology.
Taylor and pavlik are tied to each other now like marquez-vasquez. A rematch needs to happen right away without any tune-ups or voluntary title defenses.
Bob Arum has said that he wants Pavlike to defend his title against John Duddy. That's ridiculous. John Duddy barely beat a past-his-prime Campas who got beat easy by Delahoya.
Just bring on Taylor-pavlike 2 and forget about it.
