'Dead Champ Walking' Takes On The Ghost

By Terence Dooley - Middleweight Champion Jermain Taylor steps into this weekend's fight with Kelly Pavlik with a dark cloud of negativity hanging over his boxing career. In the minds of many people this fight is already a foregone conclusion with Taylor destined to be on the end of a concussive beating from the forever-pumping fists of Youngstown’s Kelly Pavlik. Why? I wrote the article and am happy to defend any points of contention.

AA out-boxed Miranda as far as I could see and with a pretty bad injury. People cried "rematch!" but I always felt Miranda needed to prove he was title class, he clearly is not as he lost a title bout and could not win an elimination contest.

His fans think his excitement should bring him shots at titles but he needs to win important fights first.

To put it into perspective Eastman was a decent win (among a few others) but Eastman lost last night at British level and was never much more than this.

Hope you enjoyed the first few paragraphs.

ALlan green was highly touted and an important fight and miranda won that fight. dominated him , he stopped howard eastman , the only man to ever do so , willie gibs was a good win too. and he totally dominated Arthur abraham !

you basically say miranda isnt top level, but then go and say pavlik may have won that fight because Middleweight isnt for miranda. so pavlik isnt a top contender too?? then who is? kasim ouma? cory spinks?

I agree that Abraham won that fight hands down. The fifth round was SHADY but Abraham gutted that one out. Abraham might beat Pavlik and Taylor. That said, Miranda is getting trashed by too many; he's a good fighter and it's not his fault he got compared to Julian Jackson et. al for a minute. His wins over Eastman and Green were quality and to beat Miranda says a lot about Pavlik.

Gibbs was a good win but Edouard also beat him and Danile is talked down. That was one hell of a fight and must have damaged Gibbs a little.

I actually think Green showed how Pavlik would beat Miranda. When Green kept it at range he was in danger. A forward moving fighter like Miranda needs space to move into, this gives him a flow. Green did, at one or two points, step into Miranda, past his swings, and landed.

Miranda is not top level. I had him losing to AA and you saw the Pavlik fight. I actually made the point that Miranda is very limited and the weight further limited him. At 168lbs he will do very little as far as I can tell.

Both Ouma and Spinks have won higher level fights than Miranda.

Edison has a good story behind him but he should have brought in a better trainer earlier on. I think he won't ever win a title of note let alone be a Champion.

Don't get me wrong I'm not trashing Miranda. I enjoy his bouts but he is very limited.
