Golden Boy claims it will not influence the Ring editorially, yet they will expand asian boxing coverage?
            Am I missing something here?
            That's an editorial decision.

That's not an editorial decision, that's a coverage decision. The editors and writers can choose what and whom to write about without interference. He's merely going to be paying more people in that area of the world to write stories about fighters in that area of the world.

              Nothing wrong with that.

With the greater interest of Golden Boy Promotions in the Philippines and their tie-up with the famed ALA Gym of renowned boxing patron Tony Aldeguer and the resurgence of boxing in Australia and South Korea as well as the growth of the sport in Japan, Thailand and Indonesia, Gomez indicated that coverage of Asian boxing is likely to be increased in the future.

                Good stuff!

That's not an editorial decision? Oscar de la Hoya is deciding content in the magazine. He's influencing what will change or remain in the Ring.
                  That's editorial management.
Oscar de la Hoya will not arbitrarily take action on his own, obviously. He will hold meetings with [editor-in-chief] Nigel Collins concerning changes.
All this conradicts the promised hands-off policy at the time of the announced Golden Boy Promotions acquisition.
Could the new expanded asian boxing coverage be intended to help promote fighters in the Golden Boy stable and/or possibly influence their ranking?
