This was 2006: The best, and the not-so-good
    By Robert Morales

Now that everything important has taken place, thought it would be a good time to dole out some awards -- good and bad -- for 2006. Some of my awards are typical, some are unique. They're all juicy:

Hypocrite of the Year: Diego Corrales

This was probably the easiest pick to make. When Jose Luis Castillo weighed 139½ for what was supposed to be a third 135-pound fight with Corrales in June, the fight was canceled and a lot of people lost a lot of money. Corrales went off verbally on Castillo and his promoter (Bob Arum) for letting it happen. He said he loved his sport too much to ever do anything like that. Corrales also ripped the Nevada State Athletic Commission for being too soft in its punishment of Castillo, who was given the maximum fine of $250,000 and suspended the rest of the year.

So what did Corrales do? He weighed in at 139½ for his fight against Joel Casamayor in October -- the same 4½ pounds Castillo was over. Corrales lost his World Boxing Council lightweight belt on the scales. Asked the day of that weigh-in if he felt like a hypocrite for doing exactly what Castillo did in every way, Corrales said "No." He said that as long he was willing to accept his punishment, he didn't need to feel like a hypocrite. Wow!

It doesn't matter that after his loss to Casamayor the next night, he said he did feel like a hypocrite. By that time, he was smart enough to do some damage control. As far as I'm concerned, what Corrales said to me just after his embarrassing failed weigh-in is how he really felt.

Even though Hatton KO'd JLC, JLC was doing some damage to Hatton. Now with that being said JLC was not at his best weight, past his prime, and possibly unmotivated for financial reasons, brothers death, and everything else he was dealing with. JLC knows he couldnt deal with Mayweather on his best day, so after seeing he could deal with Hatton better than he did with Mayweather years after his prime, his prediction makes perfect sense.

I too thought JLC won the first decision against Mayweather but Floyd was not at 100% and proved that in the rematch.

Mayweather went toe to toe with Delahoya and went even up with him. If you still doubt the guy then i don't know what to say, after all Hatton will be the smaller guy. Mayweather will stop Hatton if Hatton really presses Mayweather.

Whether Castillo says it or not I know Hatton doesn't have a very likely chance at beating Floyd. Anything can happen but if both guys are 100 percent going into the fight then I'd say Hatton has no chance.

Stefjonno made a comparison between the hatton and mayweather fights as if Castillo fought Mayweather and Hatton six months (instead of SIX YEARS) apart.

Do you think that the JLC that RH faced was on the same level as the one that PBF faced?
no but it is a good victory , and a body punch is a body punch , castillo wouldnt have survived that punch back then neither

Isn't that part of the fundamental problem with boxing?

Do you remember what McGirt was saying before gatti/mayweather?

Didn't Morales say that he was "great" before pac 3? Did you believe it?
I dont know what Morales said b4 Pac3. But it possible that Pac was even better for the 3rd fight as well.
But the thing is as a fighter, you have nothing to gain from saying your in the best shape of your life, if you then go onto lose like Castillo did to Hatton. That dont make Castillo look very good.
And Castillo would have been in good shape for Hatton. He knows to beat Hatton he would have had to be. And boxers have got pride and Castillo wouldnt have wanted a beating. But its all ifs and buts.
Castillo thinks PBF will beat Hatton, as do many. We will have to wait and see. After adding everything up i say Hatton has a realistic chance if you go by opponents only and how they dealt with them, and not by was so and so at his peak etc.

Which begs the question : Would Hatton have landed it?

Oscar said that he was "in the best shape of his life" for The World Awaits.

In fact, it may be the most commonly spoken words by a boxer before a fight: I feel good, I feel strong, etc.

I am not denying that Hatton's win over JLC was a good one. It was. Any win is a good one. Ask Zab Judah.

But I just don't think it is appropriate to make any comparisons between the Hatton-castillo fight and the PBF/JLC fight.

Would you say that PBF's win over DLH is equal to Shane's win over DLH?

Get all that logic of yours in before the banishment my friend. I don't want you leaving without saying everything you can first.

I will remain and occasionally use your posts as reference as to how not to analize potential matchups!
