Just re-watched this fight. Damn, Roy looked like a ball of muscle. He was fawking RIPPED at HW. Really legitimizes his claim about losing 20 lbs of muscle to fight Tarver at LHW.
Oh crap I am going to say it...................I AGREE. Roy made a bad decision to face Tarver so soon, he did it just for the payday. He should have waited awhile longer and lose the weight slowly but surely, not to mention Tarver has a style that is very difficult for Roy to deal with.

Agreed???
I have a pic of RJ and I taken at his gym on July 29, 2003...that was just about 12 weeks before the first fight vs. Tarver... and he was BIG on that day....really thick, thick enough that I mentioned it to him. So, yea, I would say it DEFINITELY was an issue.
And yes, Roy had a nice fight against Ruiz, he weighed about 199 on fight night, Marc Ratner messed up when he brought him in at 193, he was much heavier than that.
It might have been the weight, might have been his age. Tarver's a tough fight for Jones at any point in his Light Heavyweight career, in my opinion. Could be a combination of things, really.

i had roy winning the first fight 9 rounds to 3, i didnt think it was close. Roy showed his heart though and good chin when it counted. The weight was a huge factor, not just a claim, your own eyes cant lie to you. after that fight though, i think his age got him and he never wanted to train again like he used to.
