As the shorter fighter, Hatton likes being broken from that clinch, as he's automatically left within range without having to work his way in again.

Hatton also works from the clinch himself. He'll hold- then push the opposing fighter back and uppercut as the opposing fighter naturally tries to restart the clinch again (as a reaction to the shove).
Yeah, but you know what I'm saying. An outside boxing match is to Floyd's advantage. I think we can agree to this.

If the ref is fair but firm...

Holding and hitting at the same time will only get Hatton disqualified after a few warnings.

If any ref allows it to happen often, he should be held and hit too.

It would be in Hatton's best interest to avoid losing in that fashion.

An obvious hold and hit...yes. But, we were talking about the ref allowing them to clinch and fight inside. There's a difference there.

Actually, check the thread title... I don't know who started talking about just excessive clinching, but that's not a big deal, if Hatton holds and hits, it is up for debate if the referee will allow it.

That's a hilarious scene to picture.

I am 100% confident that will not happen.

It would make the fight more interesting.

                You must be the ref.

Hatton has used this technique his whole career, and it has proved very effective, I doubt he will not use it in the biggest fight of his career.

Against Floyd, it'll be hard to do too often as Floyd will be moving constantly.

Then again, Floyd might respond in the same fashion if Ricky goes too far with it.

It's an effective tactic especially when you're gassed out.

But, it should only be used within reason.
