Oscar is going to be taking a **** in the can and laying a golden turd while reading an advanced copy of the ring with crossing out potential articles with a big red marker and saying in his gay lisp, "no no no they should not mention me on my bike against Tito....I gave him a boxing lesson...editor, get rid of this article!!!".

There goes any respect the ring belt might have had out the window.

Damn you crazy pessimists. lol Maybe GPP has no plans on actually managing the magazine, they are just looking for more pieces of the boxing pie to get bigger and more marketable.

This doesn't necessarily mean the magazine is going to crap.

I was thinking the exact same thing. We'll see how biased The Ring is now towards GBP fighters.

“These magazines will be held in an editorial trust where they will be operating totally independent of any influence from me or others from the Golden Boy Companies as it relates to editorial direction or content.”

GBP owning The Ring isn't gonna make any difference. They dont have any say so in what goes in it.

But damn pretty soon De La Hoya is gonna own anything and everything that has to do with boxing.

          I wouldn't wanna play him @ Monopoly!

I don't think we are pessimists, I think we are pragmatists.

In every other instance where a company has tried to broadly diversify, they seek to gain leverage and synergies. It is Business 101.

AT THE VERY LEAST, if you are a photog or writer, you won't give a quick thought about who writes your check before you print a picture, article or ranking?

You don't feel that objectivity has been colored?

Oscar is a business man, but he has an ego like all men. I wouldn't believe for one minute every article from here on will not have to receive his personal approval. I don't think the opinions of the magazine can be trusted henceforth.

I like your thought but I do disagree. It is all how inner business is handled which I don't really have a forecast on. Most of the time, owner transitions go smoothly with little to no impact on daily jobs inside the company.

but its only natural that the writers are going to appease those paying the bills. Much like websites, networks or any other medium that never take shots at their sponsors, in fact normally going overboard with praise.

Golden Boy tries to remove itself from the fray by saying that it's only an associated company under the Golden Boy Enterprises umbrella that is making the purchase. But said company (Sports and Entertainment Publications, LLC) is headed up by Arnold Joseph, Bernard Hopkins' attorney/advisor.

I mean, you can't help but trip over the huge conflict of interest that exists.

That's what I was thinking... the magazine does well right now... why would De La Hoya mess with it? He's making tons of money messing with his actual promotion business, I think he does just want an extra source of revenue.
