ROBERTO DURAN vs FLOYD MAYWEATHER at lightweight

I read it in BOXING DIGEST.

I think its easy to agree that DURAN would destroy MAYWEATHER when he was at lightweight.

THe Magazine claimed that Mayweather was in his prime then? not a chance

Mayweather has developed defensively a ton since then. Thats teh main thing.

Castillo got to Mayweather and was connecting a lot of punches in the mid-late rounds.

Duran hits much harder then Castillo, a lot faster, much more relentless and fearless, and i think this would be a quick fight for Duran.

Higher up in weight its a different story. And maybe if Mayweather fought at Leightweight NOW, maybe it would be a different story. But Duran is one of the great Lightweights of all time, Mayweather is just a great lightweight

I think Duran wins by decision in a close fight. Duran didnt real maul through every opponent at Lightweight like some believe, and lesser fights than Mayweather made it past the 12th fighting Duran. Im assuming this is a twelve round fight, and Mayweather would go the distance in a fight that is NOT one sided, although Mayweather might be a little beat up at the end.

Does anyone know how many HOF fighter Duran fought at Lightweight? just curious. Im sure Esteban De Jesus is one, but other than that, Duran's wins at Lightweight were not over HUGE name guys

Duran would win a close fight, again, Im no Floyd fan, but he is a very good fighter, specially on his feet, when he wants to he can move like almost anyone in history, and Duran did get a littlwe reckless most times....the one guy i think would destroy Floyd at lightweight because of his style would be Julio Cesar Chavez...

What about Chavez's style leads you to believe he would destroy Mayweather? I feel it be nothing but a repeat of the Whitaker fight. Unless you felt it really was a draw or Chavez won I don't see how you come up with that conclusion.

I think that both Julio Cesar Chavez and Roberto Duran beat Mayweather at lightweight.

The rhythm of his upper body movement, the accuracy of his shots, the great defense he has based both on blocking and slipping(unlike Duran who bases his defense more on slipping...), body attack, power and the awareness of the opponents position and distance...JLC made Floyd look bad in both fights(please dont say the second fight was an easy fight for Floyd, even Floyd thinks he struggled both times), Chavez would destroy him, as he is much more precise and much faster than JLC...

              EDIT:

If Floyd uses his feet more, JCC was very good at cutting off the ring...even if he wasnt exceptionally fast on his feet....

AND JUST SO YOU KNOW, WHITAKER AND FLOYD FIGHT NOTHING ALIKE....

Um, Have you ever seen the Julio Cesar Chavez-Hector Camacho fight?
Whitaker only was able to beat JCC because of his unbelievable infighting ability. Floyd falls into lapses of defense when he starts in-fighting, he does most of his countering from the outside.

people usually look at the Whitaker and Meldrick Taylor fights when they look at JCC and automatically assume that any fast fighter would own him. but this just in...these are exceptional fighters, to say the least.

Meldrick, p4p, had quite possibly the fastest handspeed in combinations of all time. and he didnt get ahead in that fight pot shotting, he threw around 90 punches a round at lightning speed.
Whitaker is skill wise probebly the most well rounded fighter of all time, had an amazing jab, and had outstanding reflexes.
I dont know about Chavez 'destroying' Mayweather, but Mayweather was never a volume puncher and doesnt use the jab a lot.

Let's be real guys, if Duran could beat the bigger, stronger Ray Leonard at welterweight, he'd DESTROY Mayweather at lightweight. In all likelihood ruining the man for any future fights.
