Its a frequent thing to see a fighter parry a jab... the guys who have a very skillful defense also parry hooks, especially to the body. If you watch Manny Pacquaio sparring, you will see he does this when on the ropes.
But loads of fighters parry the jab. They just dont make a point of it, and its just a natural thing... look out for it more. Hatton will be doing it all night on Floyds long fast jabs I think.
You see it a lot with jabs to the body or normal jabs. Roy Jones and Mayweather do/did it for example, but lots of others.
If you are too close to your opponent, fighters don't do it, because you are open on one side, while parrying. Chance is too big to be hit by another punch.
Chagaev parried about 90% of Valuevs jabs.
It's more practical to be parrying strong punches than it would be to block them as parrying them could put your opponent off-balanced if he's trying to load up on you while blocking may just cause you to accidentally hitting yourself. I've always been told you block the weak **** and split the strong ****..
