why fighters in professional boxing don't use the parry? is it an amature thing?

    Some use, but only sparcely.

Chagaev would be a good example.

They do, frequently. But professional boxers tend to be good at recovering from missed punches very quickly so maybe you miss it.

It's a lost art. Believe it or not, the last fighter I remember
seeing parry a punch was Mike Tyson when he did the exhibition
with Sanders. Or maybe it was just that I had never seen him
        do that before.

Can someone explain to me what parrying is? I have never heard announcers refer to it.

The closest I have come to knowing what parrying is is in Fight Night Round 3... which freezes your opponent for about 3 seconds, if you parry their punches. Lame.

Anyways, I really would like to know, so I could be a bit more educated on the subject.

Instead of just stopping the punch like blocking it would be, you sorta chop it down (not literally but the motion is of such) causing the fist to go astray allowing you to counter if your opponent isn't quick enough to pull it back in time to counter your shots.

In real life it's nothing like that simulation.

I tried the parrying technique at the gym today,... seems like a good tool, but not very practical in a real fight. I'm not a professional fighter to use it...

Oscar did it in the whole first six rounds of his fight with Floyd. Humberto Soto is very good at parrying also.

The parry is very useful in the ring or out.
