He is only a paper champ until he beat Casamayor. It doesn't matter if Juan collects all 4 major belts(WBC-WBA-IBF-WBO), Casamayor is the true champion at 135lbs.

Jose Luis Castillo(WBC) fought Julio Diaz(IBF) 03-05-05 (Castillo won by TKO) and Castillo fought the late Diego Corrales(WBO) on May 7th 2005 for the undisputed lightweight championship of the world (Corrales won by 10th round TKO). Joel Casamayor SD Corrales to become the true lightweight champion.

in theory this is correct. But Casa also beat an over-the-weight fighter in Corrales. For those who pretend to be old school, this actually would've been an over-the-limit non-title fight once upon a time.

The problem I have is that Casa hasn't done **** since winning the title, in fact TURNING DOWN fights with Juan and David Diaz. What's worse, he's now coming back to defend against Santa Cruz - who LOST to David Diaz and has done **** all to warrant another "title" shot.

I can agree with the concept that titles should only be won and lost in the ring. But when "the" champion only fights once a year, and not against his top contender, then the system is just as flawed as the suspect alphabet rankings everyone ****s on.

Kind of hard to beat the man when you don't get an opportunity to meet the man.
