    kayjay,

I like you and I respect your intelligence.

In this instance, i think you are being maybe a tad naive. I have specifically read some posts with not-too-thinly-veiled racism regarding Mayweather.

In one instance, the post referred to Hatton beating Mayweather the way that Calzaghe beat 'that other thug' Lacy.

I asked what the similarities were between Mayweather and Lacy, and what classified Lacy as a thug. No response.

I have also seen Mayweather's antics referred to as "******". What is inherently ****** about being spoiled or arrogant? About living a garish lifestyle? About con****ious consumption? In that case, I guess Paris Hilton is "******".

Racism isn't always overt. In fact, the vast majority of racism is subtle. But like the Supreme Court said about ****ography: I know it when I see it.

            Again,

I see the ENTIRE young Hollywood flaunting wealth every day. I turn on the TV and it's all about "the biggest celebrity homes", "the best weddings", "dream vacations" etc. We have magazines dedicated to nothing else but how to spend ungodly sums of money. I can't imagine that the Robb Report has PBF as its sole subscriber.

It is an AMERICAN obsession. I see Paris and Nicole and the Trump kids flaunting wealth just as much as anyone.

Who's more gaudy than Donald Trump??

Mayweather is a person, and a boxer, not a colour

He is a good person and a good boxer,

For those crying nerds who believe every word he says, i would like to point out for the following.

-Who went to 30 schools last years doing talks to children about bettering themselves?

-Who is building community centres to help people less fortunate than him

-Who works with Charities in his spare time and helps out families during thanksgiving?

-Who is 100% Dedicated to boxing and doesnt get drunk, fat, abuse his body, or blow up to light heavy weight in between fights,

                you are absolutely right.

Every Oscar/Floyd video turned into an ugly race war in the comments section.

I may be wrong in my appraisal of Mayweather's merits as a person, but that's a bit beside the point as that still doesn't make it a racial matter.

I certainly wouldn't have referred to him as "******," though, since he's definitely not that.

All these great boxers of the last 20 years were childredn of boxers and/or trainers and that manifests itself in personality quirks. To me Mayweather's problems have more to do with being a second-generation athlete than with being black. Bonds is similar but a much worse and more detestable person than is Mayweather. Part of me wants to like mayweather, whereas no part of me ever wanted to like Bonds.

I don't understand the accusation that the Mayweather hate is racially based. To me Mayweather does not represent black people. There are too many black athletes in the public eye to take Mayweather as a paradigmatic case.

More importantly, Mayweather does NOT represent even the non-conformist, "non-'house'" black athlete. To me he just seems like a spoiled, unhappy, attention-seeking kid. The non-conformist black athlete is the Jim Brown type. I have not a bad word to say about Jim Brown. Mayweather is not in that category. Nor is he an innocent ****** kid who never outgrew his upbringing. Examples of the latter are Allen Iverson and Rasheed Wallace. They're two of my favorite athletes, I don't hold it against them that they have overwhelming and obvious shortcomings as people. They're inoffensive if also narrow.

but Mayweather is a different clas altogether. He's fake, trying to pretend to be rich and a hip-hop icon when he's neither. Crying for attention, he has an obvious lack of parental attention and encouraging influence which makes him a flat-out bastard and intolerable individual. The boy can fight though!
This is a ****** thread. Did you know PBF was a respectable guy coming into the sport?!! People still questioned his skill and many still disliked him. So PBF said F it I'll be the Bad Guy A.K.A ******* = THATS WHAT SELLS FIGHTS. To say PBF doesn't represent black people is ******. Ok this is reason why this thread is ******!!

You said attention seeking kid. WTF?!! WHY NOT?!! THIS SELLS FIGHTS!! NAME A FIGHTER OUT THERE THAT DOESN'T WANT TO BE KNOWN???!! POINT EXACTLY.

You said he was unhappy! WTF! Gives you that idea?!! The guy always smiles and enjoys his life and boxing to the fullest.

Then you say spoiled!! If you had Mayweather money wouldn't you be spoiled?? See you forget who he truly is and go by what he did in 24/7 and in his confrence. CORRECTION!! YOUR TO DUMB TO UNDERSTAND THAT HE IS ONLY SELLING FIGHTS. 80% OF BOXERS DON'T ACT LIKE THEMSELVES WHEN IT COMES TO SELLING FIGHTS OR BECOMING A BIG NAME IN THE SPORT.
